I live in Oakland County, Michigan- a county that has recently run a census of local wildlife and found there to be more deer now than what was claimed to be present in the late 1800's. We have widdled away at the thesable hunting grounds for woodsmen, and eliminated all of their natural predators save for one- the humble four wheeled automobile.
Thursday night at aprox. 7:15, I was heading home from work going south on a narrow two lane road when a Buck of below average intelligence decided that he wanted to say hello to my front end. Without any real call ahead to inform me of his visit, we connected in a rather absurd way- like two teenagers kissing for the first time, we collided rather painfully.
My poor 2002 Ralleye Red Civic EX Coupe very well may have met it's end that evening. Esurance is being very evasive on how things are looking and I'm more than just a little frustrated with the whole situation...
But I do have to look at the bright side, now don't I? As this does leave me open for two rather promising options-
1) The car is totaled. I will receive a check for approx. $10k per the quote from a good friend of mine of whom is an insurance adjuster. Could go a little one way or another. I owe about $1,200 on it, and would be able to put a nice down payment on something a little more fun say.... 09 Si Sedan? RSX-S? Scooby STi? I dunno- options are pretty endless.
2) The car is repairable. Does anyone know if I would be able to talk any bodyshops into doing an 04-05 conversion? All of the parts that are screwed are parts that would need be replaced in this conversion- fenders, hood, bumper, grill, radiator support, and headlights. So theoretically, I don't see what the problem would be. Any experience with this? Esurance said the check would be made out to both my and my chosen body shop's name so.... *shrugs*
I hate deer....

Where I hit it was not too far from Animal Control in the area- so when I hit it, they were there within like, 10 minutes to go through and clean up his remains. By the time the cops and EMT's were done with me, the deer was gone and there was nothing but a blood pool on the road. There were pieces of the deer's antlers in my windshield, blood and fur all over the underside of the grill. I severed his rear legs and gutted him. He went airborn and his viscera went all over a passing Lexus. Which was white. It was a little disgusting.

Funny. Ha-ha.
So just did a look on Majestic's website and.... penny for penny, it will cost the EXACT same amount to replace my parts with 04-05 parts as it would to do 01-03. So... if the car is not totaled, then 04-05 conversion, here I come.
If it is totaled, I have found a handful of cars that I think I'd go for:
1) WRX Wagon (Pre-Uglification)
2) BMW 328xi Wagon
3) Caliber SRT-4
4) Audi S4 Wagon
5) Element EX AWD

I hear you man. This happened to me a week and a half ago. $3198 in damage, plus a little more since I found that my raddy fan and driver's side light bit it so that will get added to the list.
So she's getting an 04-05 conversion and a bunch more go-fast parts out of it.

See yours looks worse than mine, and Esurance is still telling me to expect the possibility of a total loss.... what was your year\milage? Mine was an 02 with 96,000 miles on it.

'03 with 41K on it. Plus the deer ****ered the carbon fiber hood and my Koyo radiator. All told, here's everything that needs to be replaced.
- both headlights
- radiator and fan
- both fenders
- hood
- bumper cover
- radiator cradle
That's it really. Didn't push the fenders into the doors, nor did the airbags deploy.

whatever you do when you get an element DONT get the AWD unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. I had an AWD element and that crap didn't get but like 20mpg... and it was SLOW SLOW SLOW. get better mileage and more power out of a 2wd. you won't regret it.

Foos: See that's mine exactly plus the windshield, and I'm all stock.... time to start arguing.....
Fox: If I got an element, I'd go for the AWD, because I'd be doing a frank swap and going turbo.... So slow wouldn't be an issue. Plus I need the AWD in the winter- I'd like to take this possible opportunity to get rid of my V8 Trailblazer that gets like... 15 to the gallon... if that? And stop having to put my dsm on the road in the winter.

Up here in Canada if you had a hit with a deer it's pretty much total loss(it almost an everyday thing lol), your lucky though VERY lucky that the deer did not go flying through your windsheild after your ran into its legs!

damn yo, the windshied too?? and the bags didn't deploy? i'd call that lucky...
but you might have some unseen bend-age in the unibody that ins suspects. it'll be sold and salvaged and somebody will be driving it next year if they total it.

Well news is not good. 5,139 dollars in damage with three open items on the damage list- of which are frame damage, engine damage, and roof including moonroof (I guess part of him went over my car and spiderwebbed my moonroof)

KBB says that it's worth 10,900. But supposedly they say that they see comparable cars at the valuation of between 4-6k, acting like they're doing me a favor by offering me the 6,000.
Then their whole dispute process is pretty much saying I would need to hire an appraiser (that's 500+) to go through and make a comparative appraisal....
eSurance SUCKS.
I'm checking my purchase papers to see if I bought GAP insurance along with my extended warranty and all that then let that cover my remainder and just say eff it..
It would definately limit my next choice in vehicles.... Nixes a lot of my choices...
I'm thinking I might just go back to a civic.... Sedan this time though.
