Hi, I have a choice to get a 2001 BMW 330CI w/ Sport package with a fresh 1 week old paint job or a 2006 Nissan Maxima SL. Both have leather and wood grain. It is big upgrade from my civic but don't know which one to get. Any opinions?

^ exactly what I was thinking. BMW's have reliability issues. Since it has that much mileage on it, I'd say your treading in water thats deeper than you can stand in. (*snap* my analogy wasnt as good)

Reliability issues? How so TRIZ? My hoopdee in Germany was an '89 730i with the big straight 6 petrol engine. The body was beat to **** - you don't drive a 4-door tank in Germany and not expect to bump into a few stationary objects, but the engine was rock solid.
It had 220000 kms on the clock, ran like a Swiss watch - well, a German glockenspiel - and would hum along the autobahn at 240 km/hr like it was taking a walk in the park. I sold it to buddy when I left two years ago and it's still running like a top. I definitely would not say they have reliability issues as long as you maintain them.

i think one of the main concerns for the e46 was the water pump and rusting on the strut towers... no biggie.
the only thing bad about getting the bimmer is if something does break or whatever, its gonna cost u alot.

Maxima all the way. Parents have one great car no problems. Great bang for the buck! My friend owned a few BMW's constant recalls. Not very reliable expensive to maintain. He drives a Mercedes now. Big deal if your driving a BMW, your getting alot more car out of the maxima then the 3 series.

Bimmer....but a word of caution, learn how to drive that RWD properly....it will handle a million times different than the civic....my cuz racked his e30 against a curb while making a left hand turn because he accelerated and lost the tail on dry pavement
As to their reliability, as any German car, the parts will cost you more and labor will be through the roof. Sub-$1k repairs at a dealer will not be common. 70k miles isn't bad, just make sure you take care of it.

I'd go with the maxima. My friend drove his old maxima forever without any issues. Plus I think the new body style is great

if you can afford the maintence and parts for the bmw. Get the bmw. The bmw is a better car but you gotta pay.
There isn't any real issues with the e46 except coils and window regulators.

I would go with nissan for the lesser cost for maintenance and low milage. and the factory warranty im sure is still good.

man... soo many different opinions. The maxima i'm looking at has a 3.5L engine with 265 horsepower. The e46 330Ci has a 3.0L engine with 230hp. Dunno, I guess it's based on looks and room. The BMW is smaller than a civic inside and the maxima is like a SUV inside lol.

you should not base what you buy on looks and room. have you looked up what the servicing consists of for the next 30k on the bmw? it is approaching that milage where things need to be replaced. look up consumer reports on the 2 cars. call a bmw dealership and ask what you should expect from a 2001 bmw with 70k miles. do a little more research.

i do agree, the bmw is a much nicer car. but you must think logically when buying a car (unless you are a movie star)
