Rep Power: 0 2007 civic gas mileage issue
Hi,
First post. I just got a 2007 Civic EX. I like just about everything but the gas mileage on my 1st tank has been dreadful. It's supposed to be 30/40 but my 1st tank has been in the low 20s which has included highway driving and my commute isn't all that filled with traffic either.
Should this be something to be worried about or does the engine need to just break-in a little (I've seen this on other posts). I am definitely not a lead-foot either as I was getting in the high teens with my 14 yr. old bonneville. Responses would be greatly appreciated as gas mileage was a key reason I chose this car.
Thanks,
milstein100

thats really odd... take it to the dealer and demand a brand new one.. like my first tank was the best tank. Idk what to tell you except try this next tank of gas and maybe add some stp, and then see how everything goes...

Remember if the car is brand new the ecu has to learn the fuel trims. The more driving you do the better it will get.

motor doesnt get broken in til 20k miles. my mileage new used to be below 30, now at 55k miles it is around 42 on highway. it will go up. and also driving style obviously will affect it. if you floor your car or press the gas alot, expect bad mileage.

My parents both have brand new 2007 civics. My moms is an ex my dads is an lx. They usually average mid 30's with their civics. EX only has 200 miles on it, the LX has about 1,500 miles on it.
So low 20's is pretty strange.

you can add fuel additives (good ones) at any time, but its good to wait until breakin to add the oil additives.

I got my first Honda, a 2007 Civic, last week and drove <240 miles (40% highway). It took 10.8 gallons to fill it up today. That's 22.2 mpg! I can't believe I need to drive 20K miles to break it in! Is this really true?

dont expect too much on the first tank of gas. The dealer probably didnt top off the tank, or it may have spent a lot of time idling with a/c on while they washed your car, and also there is a break in period

I agree with dalaw, if the tank wasn't full to begin with you can't accurately measure your gas mileage. Don't start worrying yet.

that is a little low...my first tank (just finished it off last week) got 30 on the dot, but there is a break in period, so that was about what i was expecting to get.

Re: 2007 civic gas mileage issue
Hey guys i'm new at this so yeah bare with me. I've read the comments and i'm not sure about the 20k mark and getting better mpg. But i just got my car i have a 2007 Civic Ex and like the others i've been averaging 280 a tank ever since i got the car. The fuel i use in the beginning was 87 until later i started using 89. I recently just did an oil change at 4009miles and oil filter. I read around and read that after your first oil change you should be getting better mpg but after my oil change i still get 280-285 on a tank. I live in a mixed condition area with freeway and local i don't punch the throttle and been driving moderate. Traffic in my area can be tough at times but i travel about.. 30miles-40miles a day. Just wondering if you guys can help me. please ask any questions if you guys have any thanks!

of those that are getting bad gas mileage, check the air pressure in your tires, seriously. i think that's something that people overlook. it WILL affect your gas mileage by a TON. also, what all are you hauling around in your car? if you have subs and stuff like that, it might put a small damper on mileage.

Re: 2007 civic gas mileage issue
First of all its Auto and i usually put about 10gallons as well. I'm not a racer i like to drive normal but i just don't get it. No matter how hard i try to save gas i still end up with 280 or more but no more then 310. Some people are actually getting better mileage then me. Any other suggestions?
