I don't think cf hoods need hood pins ... I've been running my no-name brand cf hood almost a year without any problems

i hope my insurance covers it cause its not the stock hood, and i had hood pins holding it down, and no latch. (hood pins slid back, thats why it lifted up)
my car looks so wrecked, i almost cried.

you can account that to it being a poorly made hood ... although hood pins would've saved that hood ... still not strong enough for me to go out and buy hood pins.
same with the story by robo ... he didn't have a hood latch ... what did he think was going to happen? that could've happened with a stock hood ... only it would've been much worse.
drivetofast and my friend Brian had their hoods go up on them ... but drivetofast did not have a hood latch and it was tied down with bungee cords ... and my friend Brian had forgotten to put his hood pins in ... AND he didn't have a hood latch.
so yeah ... I guess I should rephrase: I have never heard of a hood going up using a properly used factory hood latch.

just got this hood....bought some sparco hood pins in silver for it. I don't like the hood pin look, but I'm scared sh*tless of my hood going up on me because I do a lot of freeway driving on a very windy stretch of 80...more pics when I install them this weekend.

And how are you so sure that Hayz hood is of good quality? Maybe he needs the pins like pedrito did. I guess you won't know until an accident happens.
And you are forgetting the MOST important reason to have pins. If you get in a head on accident, the CF hood could break off the hinges and fly backwards through the windshield. This has happened before and it has decapitated the driver.
Now if you want to be bold and not be on the safe side then go ahead. But forgoing hoodpins because of looks is like playing russian roulette.

Rep Power: 269 ^^ I agree, safety should come frst than looks...many times we push the car to unsafe speeds (and we all do it). First time I held a CF hood, I could hold it with my pinky. Those things are super light, that's why I was concerned about it flying off, but I had never ssen a messed up car by its hood flying off till now.
So pins? Yup, once I get my hood they are going w/ it.

I've only heard of Seibon CF hoods on here and ebay ... I don't know their quality, but I'm sure not all of the hoods are made where the shell is not properly attached to the carbon.
hahahahahahaha ... I can't believe you believed that ricer myth. Look at your hood and tell me how the hell it can pass through not only the safety glass windshield, but the two side bars (a pillars or whatever they're called) that support the windshield, not to mention decapitation. If someone got in an accident that bad, a cf hood decapitation is the LEAST thing they should worry about.
I've been in an accident where a truck has merged into me with both of us going about 75 on the fwy ... I ended up losing control, and T boning a guy on the freeway ... my cf hood wasn't even scratched ... though my front bumper got torn off, bumper support was a little bent, etc etc. With a gnarly accident like that, you'd have to be going like 200 mph for your hood to break off its hinges, not to mention fly THROUGH your windshield, and let alone still have the power to cut off your head.
I just don't give in to ricer urban myths

Rep Power: 338 haha well I've drive 20,000 miles without hood pins.
a tech screwing in a windshield is totally different than using hood pins. if you use a hood latch and your bolts are screwed into the hood connector hinge things, then it shouldn't be a problem.
a technician not screwing in a windshield is like saying having hood pins and not putting the pins into the latches without a hood latch
u guys do what u want though.
