has anyone cut off their cat?
i suggest you leave your cat alone. when a cop is in a bitch he see's a done up vic and feels like getting his power trip. If they ever try doing a check on you they'll look at ride height, exhuast levels, a look under the hood for illegals, and definately a look at the cat. Its not worth it...just get a highflow for 150 and you're set
i say remove it, do a straight pipe out. Get a used cat, or your old one, gut it completely so its just the shell of the cat, and weld it onto the outside of the straight pipe so it looks like you have one there, but its not doing a thing. If they look under your car, they wont be able to tell that it isnt hooked up and providing its function. Thats what i plan to do after my sway, when i get my Comptech Race Header. I think the risk will be worth the 18whp that you get from that Race Header.
Yup. Muffler shops wont weld your pipe to take off your cat though, you can have them MAKE you a pipe, but its illegal for them to install it and take off ur cat. I had to install my header first to have them weld up my catback.
yup, i tried at 4 diff places, its like a $BIG#,000 fine or something. I guess when kids get pulled over and ticketed for that, they blame the muffler shops and then the shops get busted. Most places wont even put on the kamikaze either, regardless, its on my car, so its on me... i always say " i did it at home", no reason to rat any1 out.
i agree cop in my area always check those things......every time! i once had a cop that got a coke can a then they put it under my car and said that my car had to be above the can if not it's a ticket!

it has nothing to do with the space under your car, that cops a d1ck.
in california, the law is not based on what can fit underneath your car. it has to do with the # of inches your headlights are from the ground.

funny you say that.. when i had my first cutom catback, they cut off the cat even without my permission.. and when i went back the manager first says "but thats where all the power comes out from" then i come back with "so? i dont care, i dont feel like getting a ticket, nor i dont think you do either. i could probably have your shop shut down unless you fix this.."

about the check engine light... i don't know because i haven't done it on my civic, but on the mustang, if you want to run without cats, you can buy these little things that hook into the O2 sensors that went into the cats, it would trick the computer into thinking everything is okay. i forget what they're called at the moment... but they were cheap.
prob not, but if your cehck engine light comes on, then there's your answer. get an MIL eliminator off bigjoshracing.com, its the same thing, costs less and easier to install. that's what i have on my kamikaze header
