Hey I was wondering if 205/55/16 would fit on my car? I have the stock 185/70/14 and I知 unsure if the wider and bigger tire would fit.

Yes, it fits. Speedo Wil show slightly slower speed, so careful on speed traps.

Really I thought if I added wider tires it would mean more traction which equals faster acceleration and speed. If I知 wrong please correct me I知 new to the car scene

I am talking about the speedometer in your dash. The speed shown will be less than what you will actually be due to larger diameter of the tire.

Ah, acceleration will be less. Because of higher diameter.

It's not by much, but it definitely will affect speedometer and, in the long run, odometer readings.
205/55-16's will indicate +2.9% faster (e.g. Indicated speed 60MPH, actual would be 61.7MPH)
205/50-16's will mess with the speedometer the least, as far as plus sizing in rim/tires goes. It'll cause a -0.5% reading (e.g. indicated speed 60MPH, actual speed would be 59.7MPH)
