Anyone tried fitting wheels with center caps?

I hit some black ice and broke one of my plastic hubcaps. I also messed up my fender but that's irrelevant.

I could buy another plastic cap but I don't want to. My wheels are in good shape. I grinded the rust off them, sanded, painted and clear coat so they just look really black and clean.

I think a better purchase would be 4 of those center caps. You've probably seen them on police cruisers and taxis if you live in the states.

Is doing this on a 7th gen even possible? The tires are small and I think there's just like 4 lugnuts per tire. I think a nice, polished chrome cap in the center may look nice. Thoughts?

I don't know if you'll be able to find anything that will cover the lugs like on the cop cars, but you should be able to use the OEM hub centers that cover the hub hole in the middle of the rims.

Re: Anyone tried fitting wheels with center caps?

Ebay or similar is probably your best bet. You'll need the bore diameter to figure out which ones you'll need. I don't know the number off the top of my head

How do I find that? Is 185/70r14 87s relevant? That's the tire size...

Re: Anyone tried fitting wheels with center caps?

Do those dinky hub centers work without a rim to fit into? That's my question. If they need those plastic hub caps to work then I may as well not buy any.

The ones I posted?
They're chrome plated steel and pretty durable.
They snap into the hub bore on the rim, and for extra peace of mind you can bend the tabs out a bit once they're on the rim so that they hold better

Re: Anyone tried fitting wheels with center caps?

Do you have an OEM part # for those? the honda guy I talked to on the phone was singularly unhelpful.

44732-SR3-000, found that by searching for a 96 civic hatch, as long as the center bore is the same as an oe civic wheel you should be ok, I know they used them on crv's/pilots as well, just not sure if they're the same part number

Re: Anyone tried fitting wheels with center caps?

Funny part about looking for those parts was that I called 4 different Honda dealers, and all 4 didn't have the parts. 3 of them advised me that part had NEVER BEEN IN THEIR INVENTORY. Interesting. Honda would rather sell you a new wheel than have you recondition the existing ones.
