overspray on brake discs

hey, i just painted my calipers and noticed about an inch of light overspray above and below the calipers on the disc, should i try and remove it with paint thinner etc. or will it just rub off as soon as i engage the brakes? thanks

Re: overspray on brake discs

Just be careful braking for a few minutes and the pads will grind it right off.

Re: overspray on brake discs

I would clean it up with a rag and acetone, then spray the whole thing with brake cleaner

Even if the brake pads cleaned it up, there would be some paint debris stuck in ur brake pads

Re: overspray on brake discs

i just let the brakes grind it off mine. my front discs always rust in the rain, but after driving they're back to silver, i don't think you'd have any problem if you just let the brakes eat the paint.

A tiny bit might be stuck to the pads, but it would burn right off after braking a couple times. Like mac said, rotors rust all the time and thats no issue.

Re: overspray on brake discs

Enamel is different from rust....

And if he used engine enamel, which is rated for 500 degrees, it might be harder to burn off, id rather have peace of mind that it wouldnt smear all over my rotors >.<

Re: overspray on brake discs

it's not so much the heat as it is the friction that grinds paint off. it sounded like it was less then one layers worth of paint, im imagining he doesn't have a nice glossy coat over the brake serface, that would comprimise brake safety.
