What are the widest tires you've seen on a 7th gen? 225?

And is it true that two of the widths from different companies may not actually be the same width? Like 205's from two different companies may not be the same?

you can do a 225 on them depending on wheel offset and yes a 205 should technically be a 205 but with some brands it will actually be wider. the better tires like michelin and high end stuff will seem wider because of the way they are built but if you go with like kumho it will seem just a bit skinnier

well looks and size is big difference
has to be exally the same size due to goverment regs
i have 215/50/17 sqeazzed in to lessen the 4X4 look no rubing one 3 wheels but drivers slight rub to the inner plastic fendor wall, my fault though tweaked the lower control arm slightly when i ran it off road

it may be the same size but if you look at an entry level tire say a kumho 711 and compare it to a high end michelin they will the same size but the way and quality of a higher end tire actually makes it slightly wider because of the way it is built. it is a true measure of the tire instead of the closest measure of the tire

Cuz I have Falken Ze512's that are 205 and someone told me they are as wide as another brand's 225.

Most tires more oriented towards performance tend to be a bit wider than they say.
Falken Azenis are 205/50/15, but the treadblock measures almost 225 mm.
Kumho MXs are the same way, the tire is about 220mm wide.
As far as sizing goes, I am aware of 225/50/15s fitting on the car. I would think thats as wide as you can go, and its really about as wide as you would want to go on a 7 or 7.5" rim.

guy's i don't want to agure with you but its not true may have some tread on the side wall to make it look wider but the "footprint" will still always be 205 mm/40% of that hight and then rim size, if companies could make there own size because they make "better" quality tires then how would any one know there size, you can't test fit a set of tires to size if the fit right. so they all have to go with dot says to sell the tires or they won't get dot numbers on the tire and then they can't sell it.
i been selling tires for like 5 years now, if you don't wanna belive me cool but don't go by, this guy told me this. look it up on the dot web site maybe on there

i would think 225 would be the most. i have rub marks on the sides of my frame rail from cornoring hard. and i'm on 215/45/17

This is unfortunately NOT true. Go to tirerack's website and start comparing 205/50/15's, TREAD widths vary by as much as 1" (25mm) in this size category!!!!

S-03 PP 205/50/15 tread width is 7.6"
RE750 205/50/15 tread with is 6.6"

For the most part the SECTION width, which is very much different than the tread width, is usually fairly close on all same-size tires....

note that the Section width on the 205/50-15 Falken Azenis Sport (RT-215) is 8.3" and the "official" tread width is 7.6"... and thats mounted on a 6.5" wheel... the tire gets much wider when you mount it on a 7 or 7.5" wheel.

so, the wheel the tire is mounted on will influence the tires width and contact patch too...

also, me and a friend measured a set of Azenis mounted on a 7" wheel.... the width measured out to around 220mm rather then 205mm.

I have 205's, but I need a wider tire. The one they mounted wasnt wide enough for the rim. I think it looks tight though. the rim is like a quarter in too wide for tires. 1/8 in at least stickin out on each side. They stay perfectly balanced though, and have had no probs, so when they wear, I need to get the correct tires.

What would the be advantages/disadvantages of having a really wide tire? I've seen some Mustang Cobras and Corvettes and stuff with really wide rear tires (285?). Theoretically, if you could fit 285 on a Civic, what would happen?

take a wide *** rim and mount 285 width tires on. im guessing when you try to put them on, the lug nut will be at the part where its not even going thru the lug nut holes cause your definately gonna need a wide rim for that wide @ss tire.

that would make the car incredibly stable. the width on the back makes a big difference when accelerating and sitching lanes, would probably tighten the car up a lot in the twisties too, but you'd look like a hillbilly because you's have to chop your fenders.

I had 225 on my Si and 215 on my Ex.. both fit just fine. Most Z's go with 245 front and 275 rear however biggest i have seen is 315 rear on a wide body kit Z.

i just bought some 215/35/18, now 215 looks like a good width for 18's and 7th generations but any of u guys think that the 35 may give me some kind of problem?
anybody else got them on their cars?

My car has 225/40/ 18's in the front and 225/45/18's in the rear. They fit just fine.

I had 225/40 on the rear of my car but that made my car suseptable to every little rock on the road, and my chrome rims got scratched up from having very little sidewall to protect them. Now I have 225/45 on the rear and that seems to be better. Of course I live in KY, which has the most poorly maintained roads in the US, so maybe 35's won't give you a problem in your state. What's funny is that the front tires on my civic are also 225/40 and I haven't had so much as a tiny piece of dirt on those wheels(except brake dust), so who knows?
