Trunk key won’t turn

Ok here’s the problem. I can’t open the trunk with the key. Key goes in easily. Cannot turn key. I sprayed some graphite into it. Nothing. Opens fine from the interior release.

Any suggestions. The part is $51 from my local dealer. Is this something that anyone can replace or is it better left to the dealer. I’m sure it’s another $100+ for labor

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

Are you using the valet key and not the regular key maybe?

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

Definitely not a valet key. I only have one key. It opens all doors and starts car. Key won’t turn in trunk lock. I’m going to order the part tomorrow. And take a look at how hard it looks to replace.

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

A valet key will do everything but the trunk and the fuel door/trunk release.

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

^ what Colin said

It's usually a different color too. Mine was grey for my 7th gen Civic.

Does the fuel door have a lock? It might not unlock that either.

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

Ok so the old key doesn’t work either. Went to the dealer to verify part number and price. Dealer price was $61. Went online found it for $35. Bought it. Gonna try to replace myself. Dealer wanted $130 for installation.

Ill update this this thread when it comes in.

Re: Trunk key won’t turn

New lock cylinder arrived. Install went pretty easy. Took me a few to figure I had to remove the silver trim piece.

I can can open the truck with a key. Total cost $35
