Egr code and coolant in port.

Could the coolant in the egr ports be from the install. ..or leak? I just drove the car 850 miles and it had a pending p0401..I pull egr and see some coolant in the port

Re: Egr code and coolant in port.

I would expect if some coolant was somehow there from instal, it would have evaporated away in minutes when engine was warmed up.

When? What was done?

Condensation (plain water, clean or sooty) in the port might be normal if the engine is not hot.
Can you PROVE it's antifreeze before wasting a bunch of time and energy on it?

Re: Egr code and coolant in port.

The liquid in the port is green like the coolant. But the coolant system doesn't apear to be losing anything. Drove through stop and go traffic in phoenix and never got hot.
I know it's not related but is there a good way to clean the egr ports? Without pulling intake off?

There's antifreeze all around that housing, so there's lots of chances for coolant to enter the wrong area..... cracked housing or leak in the gasket area comes to mind

Was the housing brand new?
Fresh new steel gasket installed?
Torqued properly?

I'm inclined to apply sealant to the gasket around any areas that have coolant

If the passages have become clogged, it's expected to clog in the areas nearest the intake ports, which means pulling the intake manifold out.

That's not the only possible cause of P0401 though. Wrong intake gasket will cause the code.
EGR valve stuck shut may cause it

Pulled intake manifold off..all kids of black sludge in all the intake ports on the head.. the plastic intake was also coated with black sludge..same as thermostat housing.

That should all just be carbon, because it IS exhaust that flows through the EGR passages.

Re: Egr code and coolant in port.

Is it bad to use compressed air to blow the egr ports out with manifold off blowing from manifold side blowing towards the thermo housing?

also.. the gasket that was on my car had ZERO egr port holes.. is that like a ricer thing or ?

Not ricer at all.
It's just a wrong gasket, simple mistake.
