Bent up LCA's
Bent up LCA's
Hi all so I am going to replace my lower control arms in a few days and I have been spraying all the bolts to loosen them up. When I checked my right lower control arm I found out that one of the mounting areas is like a inch or so deformed (bent up and backwards) on the top where the nut goes onto the bolt(I think). Would I have any trouble deforming this back into place with a good pair of vice grip pliers and maybe a few swings of a mallet/hammer? The weird part is that the bushing sort of deformed with it so I think I might be fine since the mounting point didn't take all the damage.
I didn't take a picture when I had the wheel off but I circled the area that I am talking about(This picture is not of my control arm).
I think my ball joint might also be damaged but I didnt feel any play when I poked at it with a pry bar. I am still replacing it with a new re-engineered one though.
That reminds me to ask. I forgot to order new CV Axle Nuts. Would it be okay to drive a week or two on old ones or is it important to replace them and throw away the old used ones?
P.S. The control arms usually come with the bolts to mount them on right?
Also I stopped driving the car since I found all this out. So don't worry about any crashing. I definitely don't want to lose the CV axle and steering knuckle too.

Re: Bent up LCA's
You should be able to form it back but every time you bend metal you weaken it so it depends how bad you have to bend it to get it back.
No, it will not come with new bolts. Maybe some aftermarket ones will.

Re: Bent up LCA's
I hope mine come with bolts so I don't have to go on a wild goose hunt for new bolts while half the suspension is disassembled. I just finished spraying down all the bolts with some stronger penetrating oil too so hopefully everything goes smoothly. I was checking the tie rods and I noticed the passenger side is sort of loose but not bent and doesn't look damaged. Could this cause any issues??
On a side note I also tried recharging my A/C because it gives out nothing but warm air. For some reason the gauge was slowly going up and then got stuck at 15 psi. It did start blowing out cold air but I think there might be something going on with it.

Re: Bent up LCA's
just a note not all ball joint removal rental tools (assuming you will rent one) will fit on the honda ball joint. you may have to look around for one that has sleeves that will fit. The problem is that the knuckle is very close to the edge of the ball joint and you need a thin walled sleeve to get in there. If the sleeve is too thick it wont sit on the ball joint properly. Good luck.
