Question Car Starts but will not move... need oppinions

hi, i drive a 2003 Honda Civic SI (manual), a few days ago i was driving home and my car refused to continue going forward all of the sudden... the rpm's just shot up when the car quit accelerating. now i have done a bit of research to diagnose the problem. i am hoping with the information i have gathered some one can reassure my thoughts.

checked the cv-joints and they are fine.

checked the transmission fluid and it is fine and no burnt smell.

the shifter is still in contact with the transmission and shifts into gear.

car moves in neutral and does not move in gear when trying to push it foreword.

tried driving in all gears including reverse.

when i push the accelerator the rpm gage still moves on the dash.

when i had the car idling to check the transmission fluid level there was a noticeable burnt break smell (the car was just simply idling at this time).

so in conclusion, i would like to assume my clutch is shot but i would like some one more qualified then myself to reassure my diagnoses before i move forward. thank you in advanced and i appreciate all of your input.

Why would you do that? Engine should not be running.

excuse my misspelling. i read on the net to let the car warm to normal temperature before checking the transmission fluid level, it was not actually running when i removed the bolt. and thank you for your response i greatly appreciate it!

I see now.. I read that like you had it running when checked.

Warming up is for an automatic trans fluid check. There's a whole lot of fluid in an automatic and expansion of the fluid when heated will affect the readings quite a bit

There's only about 2 quarts of fluid in a manual trans. Fluid expansion in a manual trans when hot is insignificant, it does not need to be at operating temp to check it. It should be level though.

thank you for clarifying that for me. the one upside to being car-less at the moment is i am gaining some knowledge... and yes i did make sure to lower the jack to a level position before checking the tranny fluid.
