01 Civic CA emissions
01 Civic CA emissions
My 01 Civic LX 2D 4AT has developed the apparently common crack in the exhaust manifold. My emissions sticker under the hood is a CARB compliant label but when I looked up my VIN number at the Honda website it states that my emissions is KA (49 State). I obviously want to get a new converter that will pass CA smog tests so my question is, do I buy a KL (CA) converter or do I buy a KA converter since that is what is installed. The difference between a OEM KL and a OEM KA is about $160 so I’d like to buy a KA if possible! I appreciate any and all help!

At minimum you need a California CARB OBD2 approved cat if you go aftermarket.
If you go with factory/OE you ought to use a parts catalog where you can enter your VIN to look up the parts, let the catalog pick the right choice.
If you really have a KA emissions car, I'd expect you should have a KA cat since that was what the car was originally equipped with from the factory.
