engine oil question

Hi all, just did my first oil change in my newly acquired 2001 Civic. I put in 10W-30 and then noticed that the filler cap said to use 5W-20. Is this a disastrous mistake that I need to fix immediately, or is it safe to drive it this way?

Thanks!

Re: engine oil question

Your engine isn't going to self destruct or anything. the 5 20 is thinner and moves easier. Trust me you aren't the first. A lot a quick lubes use it all the time. The 5 20 will help you get better mileage, so it may suffer a mpg or 2.

GFs mother is 89 and a die hard Cards fan. The house better be on fire if you interrupt while a game is on....Even then it will probably wait until a commercial comes on.

GFs daughter lives in St.Louis.
They take Granny to games a couple times a year.

I'd rather watch drag racing. There is nothing like Top Fuel.

Go for both! Thousands of HP is great too. Love me some BB. 60 miles south of St Louis, Cards are a way of life here...

Re: engine oil question

it will be fine, as long as its not freezing cold where you live, which im assuming not at this time of year, go with 5w20 at your next scheduled change

Re: engine oil question

This thread went weird places. Anyway, thanks for the tips, seems like it will be fine. I'll switch it next time.
