Loud bang with wheel hop
Loud bang with wheel hop
I know what wheel hop is i had it before 1000 times with spinning tires, but recently i have loud bang(or sometimes couple of them) together with wheel hop. It comes from passenger side probably upper part. I have wheel hop and it follows with BIG bang! Sounds like hit with a big hammer in the frame. I looked everywhere and can’t find any broken parts or loose parts. No broken mounts, springs, ball joints, bushings still intact. Could it be shock? Antishock still ok, not leaking, works ok.
Any ideas? I also have that BANG if i hit big pothole on the road and only on passenger side. It can’t be normal...

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
If it’s not a mount and you are getting the pop when hitting a bump it might be the strut mount or something related to the mount strut assembly. I’d try to replicate the sound with the wheel off the ground. Maybe pull the wheel off and start moving stuff around.

or the body in the trunk
look into difficult to see areas too.
This happened to me, but it is in the upper side of the arm, so almost impossible to see until you remove part.

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
Can't replicate it on jack, did try couples of times, can't find anything :/ Next step is strut disassemble but don't want to do it yet, will loose alignment. I see some people have this problem if google it, but no answers or answers is :"it's normal it's wheel hop" witch is total BS... Wheel hop is one, loud bang is another one... First time i had it i thought i broke something!
P.s. i can't imagine broken mount could give such a sound, it's just no way! And since i have it on pothole it completely off the list i think. Am i right? I don't know what else it could be :/

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
sdaidoji i will definitely give another good look, but i inspected all parts already couple of times very closely with no luck :/ Car has no issues on turns with high rpms, no issues with steering :/
P.s. no body, looked for that too

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
Whole new strut assembly on it's way. Had no time to inspect left side yet. Don't want spend another $280 if I don't need too so hope left is OK...

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
Problem solved! After new strut was installed no more banging. I was pleasantly surprised to find out I have very little wheel hop with new strut, did not expect that but loving it!!! I can finally spin my tires again!
P.s. I didn’t change driver side since there was no reason.

Re: Loud bang with wheel hop
Too my deep disappointment everything was fine for a couple of days until I started push my car today to the limits many times and boom, I have it again. I'm totally lost, tomorrow checking new strut...
I need to give another look to all motor and torque mounts. Also loose subframe perhaps. I know this started to happen once I changed clutch, but I was thinking perhaps my old clutch did not have enough grip to lift this problem, now I don't know...
