Rep Power: 0 idle surge 1000-3000RPM
2002 civic ex just changed engine and starts fine but idle surges from 1000-3000 RPM if i disconnect the MAP sensor from the intake manifold car will idle between 1100-1500 RPM without the idle surge.. car runs and drives absolutely fine but as soon as you are in neutral it surges
Timing belt was changed on the new motor
Timing is correct
Changed throttle bodies and sensors
Changed MAP sensor (on intake manifold)
plugs are new
I must say I'm lost with this problem right now

Re: idle surge 1000-3000RPM
First thought: False air.
Meaning, big vacuum leak or IAC stuck wide open.
Any codes?
Any pertinent data noticed in a datalist while the situation is occurring?

Re: idle surge 1000-3000RPM
do you have a new idle air control valve or used? if used would say take off your throttle body and spray carb/ throttle body cleaner clean the throttle body, spray it in all but the tps sensor (dont use brake cleaner its not sensor safe.)
On the IAC valve make sure to spray it down good, really good use a small screwdriver and a rag get down in there spray more, rag, spray i mean get it as clean as you possibly can. put it back in and you will need to let it idle as well as rev the engine a few times.
This is how i fixed my iacv problem the other day mine was reving from 1000 to 2000 and if i hit the gas and let off it would die, was pretty bad, now its running perfectly normal thankfully.
It is extremely easy though and carb/throttle body cleaner is like $2.50. Cant hurt and it could solve your problem.
If thats not it could be vacuum leak but idk much about that but spray carb cleaner or starter fluid on the lines is the only way i know of testing it, id hate to track a vacuum leak lol.

i have the same problem 2004 civic 1.6 sport d61v1
swapped in a new engine cold star fine when warm idle rises to 2000 and dips to 1500 and repeats.
changed throttle body
fuel rail
maf
stripped and rebuilt the air intake, gaskets seal
temp sensors
still same issue
driving me nuts

Re: idle surge 1000-3000RPM
did you ever resolve the issue.

Check for vacuum leaks
IAC valve could be stuck open
Possible installation error(s)

Re: idle surge 1000-3000RPM
No error codes
took apart and rebuilt the intake, new p chamber took off the injector plate, checked it all and rebuilt.
code reader live view shows air intact temp ok.
replace the throttle body complete with sensors still the same.
if I unplug the maf every thing settles. But as you know will not drive as it goes to limp mode.
so yes all points to an air leak but from where ? I have checked the normal trouble spots.
changed the injector rail thinking the ecu was code to the rail still no good.
I only thing left left is a new air intake sensor but on the reader looks fine. Lamba I think not ? Cracked head ? Duff inlet gasket
ecu andengine not comparable ?

Re: idle surge 1000-3000RPM
Hellcat - how it was resolved.
I replaced the plenum chamber the injector rail, the throttle body and the IAV valve still no good !!
I did no more just left it, then the following week had to drive north for dic hours. Booted it up the motorway cruised at 70 for about three hours there and back, a good six out drive.
Guess what it resolved its self. My previous thread it was a send hand engine placement with the existing Ecu.
