Unhappy Transmission whine when accelerating

2004 civic lx (non-vtec), manual trans, 160k miles
tl;dr: Car back from repair less than a week and approx. 400 miles has developed a persistent whine while accelerating through all gears. Stop accelerating or depress clutch whine goes away.
Car parked in neutral, rev engine = no whine. (regardless of clutch engaged or not) Whine sounds like a quieter version of reversing.
Shifts smooth, no crunching, good power.

Background:
Shortly after purchasing the car used, I noticed some transmission related noises. Car idle in neutral, mild "whirring" sound, depress clutch sound stops. Also while driving, depress clutch, downshift to make turn and a whine could be heard.

Based on those symptoms we took it to reputable mechanic, who upon test drive, suspected a failing throwout bearing along with some other bearing issues within the trans.

The bad bearings were replaced along with the water pump and timing belt (no record of his being done in the past)

In addition to the newly developed "acceleration whine" the initial noises we took the car in for persist, albeit slightly quieter. I'm OK with "normal" noise, and have owned many manual shift cars that have their own quirky sounds.

I plan on taking the car back to the garage it was serviced at but, I'm feeling quite frustrated as this was not a cheap repair!

Looking for some advice/ideas/feedback

Maybe it's not the trans at all? I did some searching for other possibilities, checked the tension on the alternator belt, seems good.

Thanks in advance

Re: Transmission whine when accelerating

ASAP make sure there is transmission fluid in the tranny.

Dont roast your clutch but if you apply parking brake and then strain the engine some in gear without hearing the whine you know it’s the tranny.

Re: Transmission whine when accelerating

has developed a persistent whine while accelerating through all gears.
Does this whine change with engine RPM, or does it vary with with road speed?

Sure stands to reason something went wrong with the rebuild, get it back to the shop ASAP so they can handle it (or blow you off)

Check trans fluid level FIRST! Look for leaks at the axle seals

Re: Transmission whine when accelerating

Loading the engine with the e-brake on yielded no whine... so trans issue is likely.
Whine does change with RPM and not with road speed, less noticeable as you upshift through the gears. i.e.- quieter in 5th as compared to 1st.

I can't get under the car/leverage I need to check fluid, so I guess my next option to to take it back to the garage, being gentle as I go... just in case by some fluke they forgot to put gear oil back in it! :/

Edit: No leaks that I could see

Internal transmission problem. Return to shop.
If the shop did input shaft bearings, something could have gone wrong.
