Overheating then no start

Temp gauge fluctuates from mid to hot when reaches hot almost immediately starts to come back down. This is what has been done. Head gasket, thermostat, radiator, cap, reservoir (was cracked), timing belt and water pump, guaged were reset (per this forum) when shut off after driving will not restart unless you pull plugs and clean. Then starts and runs fine till you shut it off again. No smoke. Open the cap after running for five minutes blows cap off in your hand. But radiator still full? I am a ASE MT. and at a loss. Thinking head gasket was defective. But checking before I rip engine apart again. Also I did none of these repairs inherited the problem. Also have heard there blocks warp??? Oh and 2001 Honda civic 1.7L

2001 is 7th gen.
we have a specific section for overheating on this cars.
Moved your thread to there. It does not belong in general automotive discussions...

just read this before asking further.

Re: Overheating then no start

If the cylinders are wet with coolant and causing a no-start condition then there's most likely a tear in the head gasket between two adjacent cylinders. Do a dry and wet (tablespoon of oil) compression test on it. If there is a tear in the gasket between the two cylinders then both cylinders will likely have compression loss.

Re: Overheating then no start

Also really important to bleed the air out of the coolant system. Few threads floating around on that as well.
