Overheat/No heat

I recently purchased a 2004 Honda Civic lx and the last owner complained of the car over heating and no heat. Drained coolant and got brown milky color. Could it be head gasket? Any help? Thanks.😁

Re: Overheat/No heat

sounds like head gasket, was coolant low? , air locks caused by the air in the coolant system would cause both no heat and over heating.
white smoke from exhaust? misfires? engine light? harder to start after cool down time?

I drove it home to realize not a drop of coolant was in in the radiator or reservoir poured in coolant and the heat worked fine but now it’s leaking oil and coolant when It runs so defenitly head gasket

Re: Overheat/No heat

These engines rarely leak coolant/oil when the head gasket has failed. It's usually combustion gases leaking into the coolant.

You need to narrow down where you're leaking both fluids from to determine.

Find out why there wasn't any coolant. Must be an external leak somewhere. Then replace the headgasket. Bring the head to a machine shop to mill flat, check for leaky valves, cracks. Check the engine block with a precision level and feeler gauge when the head is off. Use Honda genuine parts only.

Did you replace the head gasket?. If not, and it has overheated, it will most likely have a breach that will cause internal coolant loss.
