Coolant type question
Coolant type question
So where I work we have access to Alldata, I recently looked up coolant specifications for my 03 LX and it says “Honda Genuine All Season Type 2 Coolant,” after I google this type 2 coolant it shows a grey bottle with a blue cap. So..... Is our coolant supposed to be Blue or Green? Cause what was in my car when I bought it used with 153,000 miles on it, it was GREEN. I work at Nissan dealership as Parts Manager and from my understanding almost every Japanese vehicle has BLUE COOLANT..... so which is it???BLUE OR GREEN?

Re: Coolant type question
Is there any sort of downfall from using green? Not knocking the blue stuff though, I deal with it a lot at work and haven’t really noticed any differences so far. The only thing I have noticed is Green has a typical smell usually that’s why people think they have a leak when they start to smell coolant coming from their car. But from experience with Blue I have seen MANY customers come to us concerned about a coolant leak and it’s not actually a coolant leak. Apparently Blue has a REALLY strong smell compared to the Green or even Chevy’s DexCool (which after doing some digging is supposed to help “prevent” rusting) but if you read the label on the container DexCool has salt in it... how that’s supposed to prevent rust I don’t know... that’s why I drive a Honda and not a Chevy lol
Re: Coolant type question
There is nothing wrong with green Honda fluid or any other green fluid as long as it meets the correct requirements. Silicates are the enemy like Slump said. Will the car break down and blow up, no. Will you get the life out of certain components that Honda intended for you to get out of them, maybe. Every manufacture has a special blend that they feel is best for the car.
The blue can be mixed with green and is suppose to have extra stuff in it to make it last longer, "long life" coolant.
