Vibration coming through the dash and steering wheel at idle

A little background. 2005 Civic VP 4D sedan, automatic. Problem started with a vibration at idle, and an exhaust squeak. Solved that pretty quickly by replacing the front engine mount that had broke. Solved the squeak, but the vibration continued. I replaced the rest of the mounts with beck arnley mounts, as I discovered the drivers side engine mount was blown. Yes, I know that OEM is softer. Still had the same vibration. I know the driver's side mount is liquid filled, so I bought an OEM to put in it. Still no change. I have checked to make sure that there is nothing from the engine that may be touching the body. The heat shield is tight. If I feel the body where the engine mounts are, there is no vibration that I can feel coming through. I can feel the engine side vibrating, but right next to the mount on the body side, nothing. The vibration is coming up from the dash and steering wheel, but I can not really feel it in the body. I have noticed that the exhaust seems to vibrate quite a bit, but it has all of its rubber isolators on it. There are no exhaust leaks either. It is only at idle, and as soon as I get the engine around 800rpm, it disappears. Not sure where to go from here. The only thing that I have been lazy about doing is the valve lash adjustment. Any ideas from the Honda fans? Appreciate a little guidance.

How long have the new mounts been in? They can cause a little extra vibration for a while.

And is it just a rattle in the dash somewhere or is there an actual vibration you can feel?

The new mounts have been in for about 2 months. It is definitely a vibration. I can feel it all through the dash, as well as the steering wheel.

Re: Vibration coming through the dash and steering wheel at idle

Solved..... I want to give my experience to maybe save some people some money and aggravation. My car started having a squeak coming from the exhaust. I found that the front motor mount was busted. Following some advice from the forums, I replace the front and the passenger side mount. The front was definitely shot, but the passenger side looked fine. I used Beck Arnley, which they claim is the same specs as OEM. Fixed the squeak, but still had a vibration. I read some more forums, and heard that the rear goes bad sometimes. I used Beck Arnley again, and it made absolutely no change. The old mount also looked just fine. I inspected the drivers side, and found that it looked OK, but that the mount had collapsed, which was allowing the vibrations to go right into the car. I replaced it with a Beck Arnley, and had almost no change. Knowing that the OEM drivers side is fluid filled, and not knowing if the Beck Arnley was also fluid filled, I replaced it with a new OEM. This made no change, and the mount was not sitting on the frame any longer. I was a little baffled since all the mounts were new, with the drivers side being OEM. The vibration was coming up through the dash and steering wheel. I decided to change the rear back to OEM. What do you know, all was quiet again. So, to summarize, I found that the rear was not bad, nor was the passenger side. The front and the drivers side were the mounts that failed. I would replace the drivers side with OEM, and definitely the rear with OEM. So far, the Beck Arnley seems to be doing just fine on the passenger side and front. In all honesty, I would not change the rear unless you can see that the rubber has failed. I would say the same for the passenger side. The drivers side fails by collapsing, and not the rubber ripping. It will sit down on the car, where it should be about 1/4 inch above. The front rips, and you can see it fail pretty easily, and seems to be just fine with the aftermarket. I know it was long winded, but just my complete experience.

By the way, I bought my OEM parts from the company below. I was quite happy with them. I would buy from them again.
