not the usual speed sensor question connector damage [solved]
not the usual speed sensor question connector damage [solved]
Hi!
I bought a beater 2001 honda civic ex 5 speed to fix up.
The speed sensor on the rt front wheel pops a code for an open circuit.
Got a new speed sensor, of course, and went to put it in.
Found the problem.
The connector it connects to from the car- one of the wires is pulled out.
I'd like to splice in a new connector there.
To be clear, the new part is fine-it's the connector IT connects to.
I've tried to find a part number and can't.
Does anyone know what it is? Is it even possible to replace that connector? Is there a special harness it connects to?
Or am I cutting the connect off and taking the one off of the sensor wire and just soldering it together or using different connectors..
help!
I appreciate your time. I am sure this will be one of many questions I have- after searching the forum of course.
In this case, I don't even know what part to ask for. I use HPN for a lot of my parts and tried to use their diagrams.
but again- only shows me the speed sensor- female side- as it were.
I need the male side from the harness.
Thanks again!

You're good. We can move it for you no issue.
IMO, your best bet to replace a sensor pigtail like that is to snip one off at a junkyard/pick a part and polish off your soldering skills.
I'm almost certain they don't sell just that pigtail. You'd have to buy the whole wiring assembly. I think the closest you'd be able to buy the pigtail is finding the exact connector it uses, and a pack of pigtail wires. That is if they sell that connector by itself

With it being a sensor wire it might be shielded (wrapped in tinfoil) or a twisted pair. Just try to make your repair match what should be there as close as possible

Thanks guys! After being reminded that I could find the part at a junkyard- thanks xriceboyx, I figured I'd give it a shot on repairing it. I cut the remaining wire just long enough to re-use it if I could get it fixed. They actually come apart rather easily and I was able to solder a wire to the actual pin, put it back together and solder it back to the harness... Worked like a charm! I should go to the junk yard, get one and do a how-to.
