PGM-FI relays/crank no start
PGM-FI relays/crank no start
somewhat of a long read, but I wanted to put all the information up front so I could hopefully get some help. i know the fault is a common thread topic but no luck on searching for it. Thanks in advance.
I just bought a 2002 Civic LX with a D17A1 and automatic transmission. The previous guy had a major overheat and it wouldn’t start when I got it. that’s all I know on previous history.
I checked compression and there wasn’t any. So I pulled the engine, new piston rings( old rings were seized to the pistons and gummed up), honed cylinders, all new main and rod bearings. All new gaskets and main seals and cam seals. New water pump and timing set. Machined head and valve job. New alternator as well. Finally, pulled oil pump apart and cleaned it and added the shim under the spring for a little more pressure. cleaned all oil passages and cooling passages. And deep cleaned the block and all internal components as well as all accessories and engine bay.
pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked the engine to build oil pressure and circulate oil throughout. Also assembled all moving parts with Lucas assembly lube so there wasn’t a dry start. Plugged the fuse in and cranked and still no start but fuel pump does turn on.
i believe there is no spark because even with some starting fluid, the engine does not sputter at all. That lead me to check the main relays and fuses. All fuses in the car are good but my problem is there is only 1 main relay behind the glovebox. There is a slot for the second but there are no connections in the slot nor wiring for the relay. Looking at the relays left to right, there is blue, brown, black and empty slot with no wiring. Everything i have researched says there should be 2 relays there. Pulled the relays down from behind the glovebox and there isn’t even any wiring there and it doesn’t look like there ever was ( wiring harness looks clean and wrapped up like the rest of the harness) Can anyone offer some insight? Is this a thing for only having 1 relay?
