My condenser fan fuse keeps blowing.

My condenser fan fuse keeps blowing as soon as I turn the car on with the AC on. There’s no cold air and the clutch on the compressor is not engaging. I’m hoping that means a bad condenser fan motor is all? And not that I need a new compressor...

Re: My condenser fan fuse keeps blowing.

First thing to do would be to check the voltage at the ac compressor connector. With a new fuse, it should read 12v. If not, it's most likely a bad compressor.

Re: My condenser fan fuse keeps blowing.

Does the condenser fan’s fuse also run the compressor?

Re: My condenser fan fuse keeps blowing.

If you're referring to fuse number 1 (20A) in the under-hood fuse box then yes it does run the fan and compressor.

You can try unplugging the compressor then replacing the fuse. If the fuse doesn't blow with the compressor unplugged you can start troubleshooting it. If it does still blow unplug the fan and try again.
