Drivers Power Window

I have got a Honda civic 1.4 se Hatchback, automatic 2001 reg. The drivers door (front right) is not working the other windows in the car are working fine I have checked all fuses inside the car and the ones under the bonnet. I have changed the power switch unit and window regulator/motor. I cant seem to find the fault, I would appreciate any help. just to say I am in Kent here in the UK.

Re: Drivers Power Window

A pinched broken wire in the door harness? Over time the flexing causes the wires in door hinge area conduit to break. I have several cases of broken wires needing repair for non-functioning power door locks.

Re: Drivers Power Window

I disconnected the wiring harness from under dash and off the door today and checked with a test meter and even moved each wire in a flexing motion and still no problem on any wires checked all plugs for bent pins.

Re: Drivers Power Window

Test meter doesn't put nearly as much power through the wire as the motor will pull, there's probably still a couple strands connected but the majority of them will be broken

Re: Drivers Power Window

Also try disconnecting the regulator and measuring there while operating the switch. As Colin said it won't put the same load as the motor but may point to something. I have seen this a few times at work too, you'll see voltage or continuity but as soon as a serious load is put on the wires the connection breaks.

Re: Drivers Power Window

My son-in-law has popped up he is a mechanic and he builds kit cars and cars for racing he is normaly at Brans Hatch so he took a look at it and said it looked like the last owners had cut into several wires. so he has taken it to see if he can get another or he will rewire it himself. Thanks for all the comments.

Re: Drivers Power Window

My front passenger window doesn't work, so researching solution.
Did you check the actual motor (regulator some call it..) in the door? If you disconnect the connector you can power it directly and see if it will go up/down. There are two wires, +12v and gnd and it goes up, opposite it goes down.
Mine works, the problem is elsewhere. Using a volt meter you can check those two wires and see what they get without hooking them back up. They should both be gnd when switch is in neutral position.
I found that one of mine is 12v. The wires run into the car through a boot, and just inside there is a plug. I disconnected it and checked if all the connections went to the switch plug and all were good, and none contacted each other.
In my case, I need to do the same on the drivers side, I suspect the 12v instead of gnd is coming from the drivers side wires running through the door boot.

The wires tend to break in the door harness

I remove the drivers side main switch plug and confirmed the wires for the front pass side had continuity. Then I tested the switch for these three wires, and the 12v wire was permanently connected to one of the motor wires no matter what switch position. So the main switch was bad. I opened the back and could see the circuit board was melted. I went to the junkyard and got another one. It was just the same, so I had to go back (with my multimeter this time) and get another one, and it worked correctly, the "center" wire with 12v would alternatively connect to each side of the motor wires (for pass door).
So my problem has been solved. hope that helps the next person.
