I want to install dashcams in a 2004 Civic Sedan. I'd like to use the cigarette lighter socket for power, and I only want the dashcams on and operating when the ignition / engine are on. With engine / ignition off, I want zero power from the socket.

I tested the cigarette lighter socket with a multimeter, and it showed voltage with ignition / engine on, and it showed zero voltage with the ignition off. However, when I pushed the lighter in the socket, the lighter got hot. I'd like to know if the cigarette lighter socket really has zero power / electricity with the ignition / engine off. I have researched this, called around, asked around, and I got no solid information.

should be hot when the car is at least ACC mode. Should being the operative term there.

Like riceboy says the power is on at the acc and on positions. So you should be good putting the dash cam on that circuit.
I myself have a dash camera also but I hardwired it to the cigarette lighter in the back so I still have my socket free to use.
