Exclamation Should I run full synthetic in new Civic?

I am thinking of just running a good full synthetic of the same 0W20 Honda suggests in my new Civic. My thinking is synthetic will better protect my new engine’s internals, and extend its life possibly even further. I change every. 3k with conventional oil, so I figure a full synthetic would be every 4 to 5 thousand max? A dealer salesman told me Honda suggests a synthetic blend in new Civics, is that true? Seems to me it a full synthetic would outperform a blend.

I change my oil with 0w-20 Pennzoil Platinum full synth, usually when my oil life meter reaches around 15%

I have always liked penzoil quality best. Cool to know they have a full 0W20 synthetic. Would you run from first oil change in a new car?

Run from..? Whatcha mean?

I ran the first factory oil in my car until it reached 5%, and I've been running Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 ever since. AutoZone always has 5qt Pennzoil Plat with a mobil-1 filter deal for $35. I buy 5 quarts, use 3.7, and keep the unused quart in a cabinet. Filter done every other change, so me and roomie bank those extra filters. All hondas (exc s2k) use the same filters, and I have other friends that have me do oil changes for them, so I have that going for me too

Honda makes a very good synthetic blend (I have a UOA on it) but can’t go wrong with a full synthetic. I ran my Fit up to 10k miles with semi synthetic.

Get the oil tested if you want to know it’s true life expectancy. I use Blackstone labs.

Re: Should I run full synthetic in new Civic?

The original oil is the best oil to run on a new engine , it helps the engine to bed in. Changing the original oil too early and adding really good quality oil will actually have the effect of forcing the engine to run itself in for a longer period before you are able to subject it to full running loads. . As regards the "worry" meter it is safe to regard it as having at least a 5% margin of error just like the speedo. Changing oil at 15% is a waste of your time and money.

Full synthetic, run it until 15% oil life.

Yep, you're doing good. No need to change filters every oil change(the good ones) as they become more efficient as they trap more dirt. But don't want them to get too efficient(plugged). That's the way I roll too(Change filter every other oil dump and refill).

Just stay way from them junk Fram (orange) filters. I usually use Wix.
