Horrible gas mileage....

I did a search and found that most of you guys are averaging around 500kms on a full tank of gas. Well then why is it that I got a disgusting 360kms on a full tank? I haven't even pushed the car to redline let alone gone past 50kmh lately because the weather's been so shitty.
What's the deal?! Did you guys get crappy gas mileage when you first picked up your car?

R1, you just recently picked up your car right? It's still not run in fully yet, so don't start measuring the fuel economy just yet. After the first oil change, you should see the gas mileage go up.

I average about 525km/ tank with fast driving and about low 600's when driving "nicely"

Mine's a 5-speed though.

I got 420 until light comes on just yesterday, and I have CAI on auto, running it pretty roughly sometimes, so if I drove nice would be closer to 500...

When I had stock air it was generally 475-500 a tank before light comes on.

Yeah, definitely don't start measuring gas mileage so early--it's very inaccurate.

Also, how are you measuring it? Are you measuring it until you the the gas light? Well, you should know that gas light comes on, roughly when there is 10L of gas left. But that's just estimating.

The most accurate way is to do this:

1. Fill up tank to max & reset your odometre.
2. Get on the highway, and go for a nice drive! Take it easy, go 100km/h, and try to go at a consistant speed. Of course, having a passenger will also worsen your mileage.
3. Get off the highway. Perferablely 1 hour or more later.
4. Fill up the gas again & and make note of how much gas has gone in.
5. Check your odometer and check the distance you've driven.

Now do the math! Divide distance by gas volume, and you have your number. It's nearly impossible & risky to actually keep driving until you empty your tank. Plus it isn't that accurate, since we all need to accelerate hard at times. But if you do all that, then you should come close or same to Honda's "official" ideal stat.

No one who owns a 2k1-2k3 civic should be complaining about gas mileage..these cars are one of the most fuel efficient cars around..so I have read and heard...I donno about you people, but my gas lasts me a while, my car is a year old too, and I heard somewhere that 5 speed takes less gas than auto but who knows... any way before I bought this car I drove my mom's '94 firebird for a while. talk about sucking gas and low mileage for a tank! hahaha..I think the mileage on civics are awesome..but maybe I should try clocking the kms..who knows? lol

BY THE WAY..R1Style, you could be suffering from low gas mileage if you are one of those people who are constantly pounding on your accelerator..rather than letting ur foot off the gas as you cruise up to a stop sign lol..that could be it..or cause ur car is new...but im not sure..call your honda dealer haha

That's the thing... I haven't pushed the car at all yet.
Hopefully my gas mileage will improve as the car breaks in a little more.

you should know that its winter and i heard that gas stations now put out some winter gas for easier starts but it takes a toll on the mileage. also takes more gas to run the car in the winter, long idles before driving off, constant heating and such.

in the winter when i first got my car last year i was hitting around 470km per 40L, that's way less than what honda says it can do for a lot of highway driving. then summer came around and i started hitting 540km per 40L, don't run ac much at all.

MIR: the point is not us complaining about mileage on our cars, if u compare civics to mustangs then yes there's a difference. but would u not be complaining if ur civic was doing 25mpg? yes 25mpg is still good, but honda says 32 - 3x mpg for the civics.

When i first got my civic in July 2002 i was getting milages approaching 500km.

Now I am lucky to get over 450. The fuel light came on today at 460km.

But the car idles higher, longer to get up to temp. Plus the heat and AC defrost all the time now.
