remember the LS/VTEC frankinstein?

i gotta a question?

ive been reading my superstreet mag, which totally explains that insane *** motor....
now they say u can mix match stuff....

meaning the 6th gen civic.....
LS/VTEC- LS block, with any b series vtec head b16 or b18

also i heard with the 6th gen SI COUPE SOHC.....
u can mate that head with the DX block with the SI sohc headwhich makes it a little LS.VTEC!

well now since i have an LX....
is it worth it to buy a SOHC vtec head off the 2001-02 model civic;'s???

that would be sick... obviously i would P&P the head for better flow!
or does the SI VTEC share the same block as the LX??

just a thought...
any brain wizard?

you know, i've had that question pop into my head a few times and i've never really gotten around to asking. seeing that i have a sedan, if the head off of the si coupe did fit, with a little p&p, i could finally be back in par with the vtec coupes..... heehee...... anyone have any info that they enlighten us with on this matter?

You would basically end up with an Si engine with lower compression. The reason it works so well, like B20 (CRV) Block and B18C (GSR) head is because a B20 has displacement and a shiet load of torque (something that honda's lack) The problem with those engines are is that they don't last long because the block was not created for High revvvvving, so apparently it wears away at the cylinder walls. Scratched cylinder walls = loss in compression, don't want that.

you got a good point.... but can u please explain more???

i heard the CR-vtec was suppose to be one CRAZY *** MOTOR!
if i had lower compression with the LX/VTEC why would it lower compression???

would it not be a bit stronger???

if u think about it, the 6th gen civic DX was a 105HP compared to the SI 127 Vtec motor!
now with the the 7th gen they up'd it up a bit..... now just shy 12HP shy of the vtec motor.. the LX pumps out
115HP, still not bad for a 1.7L and if u compare it with the sunfire's or cavalier's 2.2L 115HP thats is oretty damn good for HONDA...

but now to the question....
wouldnt the LX/VTEC ( persay ) be a bit stronger then the Si Vtec itself????

thanks for replying... but please enlighten us...... this will be so helpful for the future!

See the LS/vtec and the B20/B18 are both DOHC engines. They adapt to mods alot better than a SOHC engine. Why? Because it has the ability to intake more air. More air = more power. 2nd of all that dx/si swap is stupid, you will only get another 22 hp, remember that's not at the wheels. 3rd of all the price you have to replace and add alot of parts, here's just a tiny list:

-Vtec selonoid
-Cam shaft
-Intake manifold
-Knock sensor-
-Pistons for higher compression (Because The SI had higher compresion than the Lx)
-Reprogramme or purchase a new Ecu (To control Vtec)
-And a shiet load of other stuff...

All this + install well cost you over $3 000. Is it worth it...NO! If you really want to do something like that do the K24 block with a K20 Head . That thing will be fast a F u c k!!!! The Crv block is 2.4 litres and with the type s head and some high compression pistons you got yourself a real fast all motor car. Also the K series engine adapt to mods way better than the B series ever did.
