i hear there gonna be lots of door crashers, things like 50% off and some.

i hope some car audio stuff goin on sale. neep the thump in my car.

Hey they markup stuff a LOT... especially in video/audio stuff. You have no idea how much either. It's sick. Typically the cost if HALF of the marked price. On wiring accessories, cost is usally 10% of what the sticker price is. Printer cables, which sell for $30, come in at around $2.00 and change.

They also get paid a lot in cell phones, cause the more clients they generate, the bigger the bonus gets. When they hit a certain quota, the bonus skyrockets (we're talking HUGE amount of money here).

The only they make nothing on it are computers, video games, and music CD/DVDs.

Just a curious question cause I work at Future Shop(who BestBuy owns in case you didn't know), do you guys get paid hourly or commission. If its hourly how does the pay work, cause my manager was asking me if I wanted to go to BestBuy with him when he gets transferred.

best buy is non commision based (based on the commercial) i guess its better for the customers and the employees no, pressure selling or buying. I think best buy is an alternative to future shop ( in terms of policies)

do you know what the pay is? based on what i've been told by managers, bestbuy will be more of a grab and go type of store, where futureshop will still be one of the best places for customer service. i personally prefer commission(i determine myself if i get a raise or not) but if the hourly wage is decent then it wouldn't be too bad.

i doubt there will be that large of a discount on car audio stuff but i'll still go check it out...... i looked at the flyer today.... they pretty much just showed garbage that were on sale......i'll stick wid 2001 audio video.

i dunno about working there tho...... no commission is sooo crap.... i mean.... pretty much means the employees won't need to know anything about the items.... seriously if i worked there.... which i could have...... i'd be like 'whatever' to the consumers.... just bum around and pretend i'm doing work.

to tell yout he truth, in a commission based area its more lies then anything just to get the sale, in my opinion. Theres a difference bewtween customer service and pressure selling.

the thing is one time, actually on many occassions, i had sales ppl at futureshop tell me that XBOX played PS2 games. F U C K in liars.

thats why i dont feel the commission based thing, never know if they wanna help or make the sale!

that pretty much tells bout ur personality. (not dissin you, just statin an observation).

i mean the ppl i dealt with at bestbuy arent like that. they actually know what there talkin bout and only help when their asked for it. dont pressure me to buy anything, only if i want to.

its hourly. how much do u average an hour at future shop? here its negotiated depending on experience, 2 years gets 10-13 to start i think.

there is a pretty big margin on car stuff especially speakers. no commission is good for ones with less experienced or not good at the pressure of a quota. but commission u get more, but u gotta be good to stay, no point in having commission if they're gonna fire you. yes u can so watever, about 80% of everywhere do. but at least u'll help when u need it unlike commissioned trying to get paid.

I don't know it hourly but last year I made ~45k, which was good for 3rd in my store(top guy made 70k). This year I'm on track to do better than last year.
There's rumours that after april of next year that we will be going to hourly pay, in which case I will probably look for other work

Hey $45K is pretty good. But having to work in Cambridge helps too I bet I worked in Oakville Futureshop.. I did computers. I sold tons but made peanuts (1.5% of gross sales).

Sony Store was pretty good.. it was a little harder to sell, but you make 5% of gross sales. Plus on extended warrenty, you make 30%.

did u guys know that futureshop allows employees 3% of the price to play around with.... that 3% is commission..... i hate this large chains... they don't tell us these things.

on big screen tvs you can easily get 7% off. but if more than 7% is taken off then i would only get 2% of the total volume. so for $3000 big screen, if i took the price down to 2750(8% off) i would only get paid $55. but if i sell the tv at $2800 i will get close to full commission which on a $3k tv would be around $140.

as for the pushing extended warranty stuff, i only do it on expensive tvs. who wants a tv worth $2000 to break after the 1 year warranty is up and try to get someone to their house to service it. i usually buy it myself on most things if the price is reasonable and i actually have the money on me to do it.

what department did u work for? and where did the top getter work? a guy from my bestbuy used to work at futureshop and he made 40-45k a year in computers. but he hates the greediness there so he left. if i were u i'd stay at futureshop, i'm working to get experience to work for futureshop because of the commission. but bestbuy is really chilling, its like everybody, even supers and managers are on the same level because their model is have fun while being the best so everybody jokes around and cheering stuff.

top 3 guys all work in home theatre with the 4th and 5th guys real close in computers. best department to work in if it were to stay busy would be mobile audio.
