or a car which got some trophies (cups) in some car shows, how much can it be sell?

my friend have a BMW 95 or 97, i dun remember, but if an original 2nd hand car is around $20000 and his car is hooked up w/ the stereo, body kit and stuffs... and he sell it for $3XXXX.. is 10thousand higher than just a regular one..

but lets talk about a honda civic 7th gen w/ hooked up..

Car Value + Money spent on mods = ebay price

the instant you mod the car, it greatly loses it value.

Ricers will buy fixed up cars, most people I know though won't touch a modded car just because since the car is modded they don't know the full extent of what has been done to the car.

Thats modded to hell and the car only cost about $45000 new.
Old muscle cars aren't stock anymore... they sell for more than they were new.
So it isn't true in all cases.

Problem is not in modding, its in quantity. There are millions of Civics. Most people don't give a **** if its modded or not. The reason they'd rather it not be modded is because chances are its been beaten on. It also depends on what you do to it... if the car ends up being a full blown speed machine, you may stand a better chance of selling it to that market. You won't get more for the car than you spend, but you stand the chance of getting a good chunk of change for it provided it was done right and you can back it up. Show mods are tougher cuz its everyones preference... what you did may not be what someone else wants. Even if you look into how many Civics have B engines in them, it still probably out numbers the number of Supra Turbos... so not even those are in short supply. Civics are econoboxes... they're not super fast, and they're built in such quantity that they're gonna depreciate no matter what. By modding it, you decrease the amount of people willing to buy it because you back yourself into a small corner of the Civic market. To sell it, you have to make the price right to get it noticed. Even with a K20 swap, you wouldn't be getting $20K for the car. Maybe $16K, but consider the fact that you've spend $24K or so to get the car and get it in there.
You can totally eliminate the problem by just making the decision to mod the car, and then driving it until it won't go another mile. Then the car is just good for parts, and it doesn't matter what you've done. By the time the car passes 100K, most people would pass it over if you tried to sell it no matter what you had done to it... its just too many miles in most people's minds.

ok...so you found a loophole in my reasoning with the supra example. but in general, its right (at least when your talking about civics). There are always exceptions to the rules.

sell it in a car show, or sell it on ebay? and how about with a nice paint job on it? (a new nice plain color, different than the factory color) and with custom hood, bodykits, custom interior lighting, 2 LCDs, stereo and other basic import work...

painting it a different color wont matter in most cases. most people wont dish out more than what the car is worth. if the car is worth 10 grand, people wont pay 18 grand for it. Your not gonna be able to sell your civic for more than what a new one cost, no matte what you do. Why? because you you hook up your ride, people will usually think you've driven the car hard. which means you probably street raced. Thats a big deterant for buyers. If you take the car to a dealer as a trade in, you'll get crap for it. You can try to ebay the car, but i'd doubt you'll get any profit or anything. You might be able to sell it at a car show, but once again, i'll doubt you'll make any profit.

Modding cars is a hobby. An expensive one at that. If your worried about losing money when u try to sell it, then i'd suggest you get out of the hobby. Start collecting coins or something, at least there value will raise.

For example, my 02 EX coupe was totalled, thank god it was completly stock and was well maintaned. It had 17,000 miles on it and Gieco gave me $15,900 for it, thats more than I paid new.

If it had mods the adjuster would automatically reduce the price accordingly because a stock car 95% of the time will be worth more money than one with a bunch of mods. This is what the adjuster told me.
