Ok well that's not as bad as 25% I wish my parents could drive a manual, oh well, I'll buy it off of them one day, and I'll put in a 5-speed, or maybe even an RSX 6-speed, who knows if that would even work.

a shift kit for the civic is not out and will probably never be out.. however JMO makes a new torque converter which raises the the stall point 300rpm and allows more powe transfer.. however it costs about 1000 dollars

i thikn autos lose power cuz of the tranny but does not necessarily mean that it's slower... and yea i've taken on 5 speeds and beaten them... sometimes it's driver error... =)

Hondas are exteremely efficient so losses generally run lower than other manufacturers, typically around 15% for a manual honda. I haven't seen any runs for auto hondas but normally losses to the wheels are:

Manual = 18-20%
Auto = 22-24%

For instance a 240-hp GTP usually puts down 185-190 hp at the wheels and it has a pretty efficient driveline. There are some real dogs out there....

Well, have you ever sat in an SMG car before? I have had the opportunity to sit in both M3 SMG and Alfa 147 SMG. Both have different shift feel and engagement feel. Yes, SMG on track would be nice b/c of the fatigue factor, however, for everyday life, still 5 speed. You cant really control when the car will egage so when youre on a hill, you may roll back more than you want. Also, M3 SMG is damn rough, even when not on sport mode, almost every shift feels like the clutch is being dropped, but not so much on Alfa 147.

Probably, that's what happens to car's in F1, which is the same technology. When the computer messes up, you are locked in the gear you are in, because with SMG you have to, for example, go through 2nd to get to 3rd, unlike a stick where you could just skip second.

Right Right, thanks Majarvis.... I just remembered about downshifting. If I were crusing 60 on 6th, and got tugged into a race, I would have to go through 5th and 4th to get to 3rd.....
