Civic type R?
yeah, in the april issue of motor trend. they say honda has NOT made it official, but it's "a done deal." basically the new civic si with a usdm rsx type-s motor and no lsd
not too thrilled since in a magazine (scc maybe dunno) they had hasport's civic si (ep hatch) with the rsx type-s swap and it was doing low 15's. i've seen eg hatch's with a gs-r swap, engine was stock in both cases, and they were doing 14.4-14.6's all night long. if it does in fact come here, i'd hope it would do quarter times of the latter and not the former

Yeah, I read the articles, both of them. You are right. The one where they transplanted an RXS-S motor in an EP hatch, and the numbers blew. But there are two things stated in the article that could account for that. One, the air temp the day they tested was around 105F. Heat kills horsepower. Secondly, the EP hatch and the stock RSX-S only has a weight difference of 1 lbs. Yes, one pound!
It's no wonder then, that the numbers suck in comparison to taking a b18 and stuffing it under the hood of a EK hatch. If I remember correctly, the weight difference on those two cars is around 200 lbs.

If I remember correctly, the weight difference on those two cars is around 200 lbs. that minimal weight difference would explain a lot. logic would suggest that the swap would make the ep hatch faster than a rsx type-s, not almost the same type of quarter mile performance
another thing that bothers me is if it does come out and in fact with the type-s engine there will most likely not be a lsd from the factory. that would just suck

you know what i would love to believe this but if they did it they would just be in competition with themselves. i imagine it would be in the same price range as the rsx, but it's almost exactly the same as the si, what would honda do with the si's

This topic has been talked about so many times. But IMO I really believe that honda will not release the CTR here in the states. Because they would have to jack the price up. It would be in the range of 23,000 to 25,000. For that price you could get a RSX type-S. Not worth it IMO.

well...... hatch is JDM..... coupes and sedans aren't... so it's easier
for Honda to just ship the CTR here, instead of sending JDM parts to US manufacturing plant to make CTR in US.......
And on the note of the engine swapped EP3 with RSX S.....
It's quarter mile time sucks because maybe the engine is damaged...
They didn't get a brand knew engine ya know..... they got a used..
I dunno my theory.....

I think it would be a bad idea to stick it in a coupe because it would just be the same as the RSX, the point of the hatch is to make it lighter and different from the RSX. Just MO her guys, don't know.
Anywho, I'd rather do a b18c5 swap myself, if I had the money.

weight is a major player with our cars performance. the reason the SI is marginally faster then the EX coupe is because the SI it 190lbs heavier. even the RSX is 140lbs heavier then the EX the RSX-S is 213lbs!! heavier, so the car that can benifit the most from an RSX-S engin is the coupe. Drop one of those in a civic coupe and youll be eating up SI's and Type-S's all day.

I was at the local dealership yesterday talking to the guy who sold me my car and he mentioned something about Honda bringing the Type-R civic over from Europe. He sounded like it was a pretty sure thing, but he didn't give me any details.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of hatches. It's like you're too cheap to buy a whole car. Sorry to those who have them - the Si's are nice, I just don't want one.
And yeah, it'll be the K20 6-speed 200 motor that's currently in the RSX-S.
Incidentally, he also showed me a pic of the factory perforamance concept coupe with 300HP. Bright yellow, 20" gunmetal rims, full ground FX .. it looked pretty good.

The "real" type r body should be lighter than the Si body. They take out a lot of stuff that isn't really needed (ie moon roof). I don't understand why they would bring two cars in the US with the same exact engine. I think thats just dumb IMO.
