Wrong! Some people on this site have actually gotten our cars to drift somewhat. But yes, for the most part RWD cars only do this.

The people on here have said that they have gotten our cars to "drift". That is what I am going by. I know what drifting is cuz my boys have supras and RX7s. I never thought you could get FWD cars to drift. Just going by what was said.

I guess you can define drifting as forcing your car around a corner sideways. It's easier to apply that force to the rear wheels and steer to keep it under control. However, you can also use high speed to your advantage and some light throttle and steering motions to slide your FWD car through a turn and make it look like a drift. It'll be a mini-drift. Higher speed and the car will be sideways less, but it's still a drift IMO. They call it a kansai drift I think? Anyway, I've done a couple like that. They're really hard to control and the rear needs to keep on sliding out from under you as you steer around a corner. It's basically a controlled spin-out. Although I think it's impossible to sustain past 90 degrees of a turn since you only have momentum to induce the slide.

To make it go longer you'll need to use the e-brake. It'll be a little jerky though and not as smooth. I haven't tried using the e-brake to prolong a drift.

Also, maybe if I had more power I could power out and keep the slide going past 90 degrees of a turn. Then again, I just don't know... I need more practice. Plus with my sway bars it's freaky since I have to go really really fast to induce the slide. Hmm...

by definition drifting is:

Drift
To cause a vehicle to exceed its tire’s limits of adhesion, exhibiting a lateral slip, resulting in an oversteered condition.

take it as you like.

personally, anytime a vehicle purpose induces a slide to make it through a turn or corner faster i consider it a drift. but if theres no gain, and someone just does it to "show off" then i suppose its just losing control. and following my personal views (just the way i look at it) its very easy to get my 7thgen to "slide" or "drift". especially at a four lane wide traffic light. i just take off hard, and slam second at full throttle right as i turn the wheel, then turn into it, and as it lines back up with the lane, use the clutch to gain a little more control, and dump it when its straight again. if i had a camera id get a video of this to see if you guys consider it a drift. either way, its fun! Closest thing I've got is in-car of me spinning out on Hallett MRC. I've drifted lightly on the same track when wet on certain corners but usually the front slides before the back. vidz from hallett:

in-car 7th gen vids

goto GCM Stuff - "oopsie" videos are spin outs, the whole session for those interested in GCM Stuff - Hallett HST Feb 15 2003 (sorry its broken into parts, had no choice to UL it)

I read an article on another site at one point that mentioned an older vic setup with a brake controller with the rear brakes set to be about 75% percent to help break it loose with a light tap. but a true drift requires rear wheel power to spin the wheels to maintain the drift.

Anyone wiht vidz of our rides drifting wuld be nice to see 4 sure.

damn man we saw the post. Its good and all according to the other replies but don't expect to be the only one on the board right now. BTW, the video doesn work on my pc, only the audio. I guess i'm missing a small codec because i have multiple codec packs installed. I would like to see a sticky at the top of one forum though of all of our 7thgen videos, whether it be drift or not. One day, we'll have a whole forum for it That'd be great.

Actually you can sustain a drift through a 90 degree turn. This is a very nice vid BTW

I've read of guys removing the click-stay for their ebrake and using it to do drifts by hitting it as they go into corners... also mentioned here...
