Stang vs. Civic
Well i know i am going to be flamed for this but i really don't give a ship if you believe me or not...
I was getting off work at 4pm today and infront of me there was a yellow convert stang... he floored it and pulled to the left lne so i had the right lane right beside him at the light... i talked to him for about a min (long light) found out he had a stock 2001 gt 5sp, he said he liked my car and was glaf i haven't "riced" it out... so we talked for a sec more and i asked him if he wanted to run.. so we both reved.. i launched at liek 3000rpm maybe a lil higher... and he reved an laucnhed too... we were both neck and neck of the launch to my superise cause i know he should have beatin me ioff the line but i had a pretty good start for once with my stock tires... i shifted into 2nd and had another good shift into thrid... at the top of second i was about a bumber ahead of him we shift into thrid and same thing we were nose to nose... he ended up hitting traffic in his lane so we both let off.... at the next lane he said good run and asked what i had done to my car... and anwsered... stock... light turbned green and we were on our seperate ways...

260hp 4.6L
avg driver can do high 14's
he was doing hashish so he couldn't take off the line as well as you did
it doesn't sound like he was that great a driver cuz by second he should have been your daddy and by third he should have owned you completely
it seems to me that if you had the same car as him in that particular race you could have smoked him something awful

Rep Power: 0 ive driven my friends 2000 gt and it had alot of power... this guy could of been a crap driver \(dubt it) or he might not have pushed it so hard but i still think its a pretty damn good accoplishment.

Rep Power: 0 Why are you guys flaming him and saying that it's BS. I don't recall him saying that his civic is faster than a mustang gt. He just said that he kept up with him. Equal drivers both with the foot to the floor - of course the mustang has the advantage, but his post wasn't referring to which car is faster. He was just simply telling you what happened.

and to think, it gets smoked by a 4-banger with 180hp and 131 ft.lbs. of torque at the wheels[IMG]i/expressions/demon.gif[/IMG]
i guess it goes to show how weight (and gear ratio) really play an important role in racing...but those certainly have a lot of power potential

I'm sorry but there is just noooooo way in he** that you could've kept up with that mustang. i've test driven one and those things are so fast, he should've left you cryin' in first gear, and if not, second gear cuz those things pull! even with a bad driver, he still could've smoked you bad..

Rep Power: 0 oh ok, i didn't specify so maybe that's why you're insulting me. i'm talking about my friend's 2001 integra type r that has those hp and torque figures at the wheels...when i mentioned the gear ratio and weight statement i was thinking about the gt and my friend's car (although it does factor into many other applications).
if you still think i don't know what i'm talking about explain how gear ratio and weight don't factor into racing-whether it be drag or highway...?
edit: ok, let me break it down further for likeweeee and the other guy, when i said 4-banger, i meant my friend's car. not our civic because obviously our civic would get smoked 3 ways from sunday vs. the mustang gt....do you guys understand or do you really think weight and gear ratio don't factor in racing??

Edit: Even with HTown's engine swap I doubt the Mustang would lose. That probably wouldn't throw off the power/weight ratio enough.

1) The mustang totally misses a shift (ie: bad driver)
2) The civic has a turbocharger AND nitrous oxide
Last time I was at the drag strip, I ran against a late 80's mustang GT. Normally these cars run in the low 15's. I beat him, my ET was 16.87. Did I rejoice over this? NO! The guy totally missed his launch, so I was about 8 car lengths ahead of him at the 1/8th mark. In the end he caught up, I think he was a few tenths of a second behind me at the 1/4.
My point? DO NOT BRAG about "winning" a race, unless you can actually beat the car on a real drag strip with good drivers in both cars.
My 1.7EL can beat a Dodge Viper - if the guy doesn't know how to drive. BIG DEAL!
