Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
05 front bumper you mean? Well havent considered it since my current bumper has a 1yr old new paint job and its still in perfect condition, not a single paint chip on it. Would adding yellow fog lights make it look better?
What about throwing on 17" rims, would that close up the wheel gap enough to not need coilovers?

I mean converting to a complete 04-05 front end, it's better looking that the 01-03 one.
17" rims won't close the wheel gap much at all, to close it you need coilovers.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
In my dealership we call that high pressure sales. Call him a Jack off and keep rocking quality. Dealers love used civics the re sale is incredible.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Ya I guess thats true, ive seen pics of civic with 17s and low profile tires at stock height and it doesnt look right. It looks even worse than my car now.
Im guessing if theres one thing to boost the cars appearance the most, it would be coilovers as the first one. Then add in 17" rims but the coilovers would probably make the biggest difference. I used to know someone who had an 8th gen, lowered his 2" on the stock 15" rims and it looked good even with only 15" rims.
Just too bad adjustable coilovers are $1200. When you lower the car on coilovers, does it replace my current struts so those go out? How long do coilovers last before needing new set? My only worry is its harder on the suspension and ball joints and brakes no?

All he kept saying was Honda has gone down the pipe lately and Hyundai/Kia has been one of the fastest growing in the past 3yrs and is better than Honda and especialyl with its 10yr 100k mile warranty.

They replace your current strut and spring.
It's a bit harder on ball joints, tie rods, bushings, but not much. It's not harder on brakes.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
i might not have a choice but to convert my rear drums to disc. You wanna know why i want a new car and hate mine so much? Well this is a HUGE reason why!!!! This is absolute bullshit how the sqeak keeps coming back. I have them properly adjusted the shoes that is, everything has been replaced 6 months ago and i mean every ****in damn thing. Some days its quiet like how it should be, other days it starts to come back. This is THE main issue on the car that really got me shopping for another car. This is why i want another car. You dont know how bad i just wanna take a ****in axe to this cars drums right now!!!
I was in a good mood this morning til now. All it takes is to hear the noise coming back from the rear brakes again and it pisses me off for the rest of the day.
I know a shop here that could do it. Itd probably run me about $700 including parts. More money into this junk car.
I figure why even bother, just get a new car.

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Your going to replace your car because the rear brakes squeak? Every car has it's quirks. Your just going to find another reason to hate your new car in a year or two. Replacing a car everyone couple of years can get real expensive. A rear brake conversion is more than 700 unless you get used parts from a junkyard and even then it can be pricey. Rear knuckles don't go for cheap.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
The shoes honestly have nothing to do with the squeak. You need to lubricate the e brake cable and other areas and lubricate them well.

My sound rjght now isnt that bad right now mostly cause everything is only 6 months ols but i know itll come back with time. I can send the clip to anyone interested in hearing. Gearbox heard it last summer.
Ive even just had my rear knuckles greased, they took the bolt out and put grease in. That got rid of another sqeak that i had. But the one now seems to be mainly when i brake and its on and off. Im always Listening for it everytime i stop.
How do u lube the ebrake cables? I did also have my rear sway bar bushings greased too a month ago.

It should only be 2-3 hours in labour to install MAX, plus a 2 wheel alignment.
$700 actually seems about right to me,

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Hopping in really late with my opinion on the basic topic at hand.
Although Hyundai/Kia has greatly improved in recent years (likely due to their immense profits during the US automotive slump in 2010-11) I don't think they're on par with Honda just yet. The biggest improvement on them is probably the styling, but I haven't heard much praise for them mechanically speaking. Also, we can't really determine the longevity of these cars until about 10 years down the road. Older Hyundais are not fair game to judge the new releases because it's obvious to anyone it doesn't hold up next to a Honda or Toyota.
I expect them to be great cars, but not perfect as Hyundais are geared toward a tight budget audience and little else. Not to mention, Honda's engine quality is unsurpassed by even the biggest names in the industry. Good luck with that.
I've always looked at the Hyundai logo and chuckled because it looks like the Honda logo if you twisted and mangled it; precisely how their older cars looked

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
I dont think the sound is from my left shoes at all. For the most part i notice it when i take my foot off the brake. Like if I back out and stop, when i release the brake, I get sqeak. When I pull up ebrake and put into park on my driveway and left off the foot brake, i get sqeak.
Im almost wondering if it is my left strut spring thats on top of the strut. Cause i push down on the back left of the car and i get a light metal to metal sound rattle.

Well do you think Honda engines are as good as Nissan and Toyota? but gen coupe owners say the engine in the gen coupe is a world class engine that would easily last 400k km.
And interesting pic i found, so take away the 18" fancy OEM rims and this is what the gen coupe looks like.

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
You know I've been thinking about that the last little while. My conclusion is that Honda actually makes better engines then Toyota. Why you ask? Toyota is a car manufacturer (really more of a truck manufacturer) but Honda is an engine manufacturer. Think about it. Honda makes cars, trucks, SUVs, mini vans, motorcycles, boat engines, lawnmowers, generators, snowblowers, tilers, water pumps, scooters, etc, etc. So really Honda primarily makes engines. Toyota/Nissan make cars. I'm not really sure what Hyundai does though.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
theyre stumped cause this sound is almost unexplainable.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
I found the clip, i actually had it on my phone in m4a format and couldnt transfer so i had to record it with my iphone playing it from my computer. But its clear enough to still hear the sound well enough to know what kind of noise im talking about here. Itll give you guys a much clearer idea.
Also note this clip was from last summer when the noise was at its absolute worst, doing it 100% of the time and could hear it from yards away. This was when i was braking about 75% of the brake pedal down and just holding it, moving maybe about 10km/h. But the sound im getting now is still the exact same sound, has to be with the brake pedal about 80-90% down and held with the car still moving to hear it. itll just get worse over time i know.
Sound starts at 26secs and goes to end, so start listening at 26secs. I accel and brake twice so you can hear it in 2 cycles.

That sound clip doesn't sound like anything to me. Sounds like it's raining outside if anything.
You don't want to get contaminates on the pad but it should be fine to use proper lube on the springs.
These are what return springs look like....
BTW - only about 20% of your braking power comes off the rear brakes. They are mostly meant to keep the car tracking straight when stopping. Converting to rear discs is mainly cosmetic.

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Hyundai logo is terrble, I think its the ugliest most unoriginal logo of all car makes. Its basically H italized with a 3D look on the inside. Very bland, a 5yr old could design that.

Toyota's 22R and later 22RE was a bulletproof engine that they used for over a decade but their V6 didn't enjoy that same reputation. I don't know much about their newer engines to comment on them though.

Heres some more flattering pics on this 2011 gen coupe
Is this a real head turner like gen coupe owners are saying? Ive been reading their double take thread and one guy said his was mistaken for an aston martin.
You guys should read it, its great entertainment. I plan on reading all of it slowly.

Most delusional group of car owners ever.
A Genesis will never be mistaken by anyone who isn't either hallucinating or completely retarded.
It's not that nice. Compare it to a 370z and it will lose, never mind an Aston Martin.
