MY 2001 Civic Beat 2003 Tiburon

My friend has a stock tiburon 6 speed v6 with his air filter removed when we raced and i beat him twice by half a car length. I have Intake, Header, Exhaust, High flow cat, pulleys, short shifter, diy throttle. We both ran low 15's. I ran a 15.23 and he ran a 15.31 So for whoever wants to trade there civic on one it is up to you.

See our cars are not that slow.. We just need a lil more extras. What model do you have? I raced my cuz Mazda P5 and I pull off first but my damn cut off kicks in @ 117 his cuts at 125 so thats why he beats me... Know how to remove that cut off @ 117... Hit me up and let me know. if ******** would rather risk his valve seats by removing his air filter than wait for an intake/put up with the ever so slight restriction of a brand new filter, then I'd say he probably doesn't know how to drive either

Bottom line is it does come down to the driver unless the cars are totally mismatched as far as power is concerned. Look at how many sport compacts hit 60 within a few tenths of a second of each other. Out on the road what do you think will determine the winner? The driver gets my vote.

2500lbs civic vs 3000lbs tibby

plus the tiburon gt comes with 17x7-inch aluminum alloy 215/45ZR-17 rollers
but it does have 161ft-lbs torque to the wheels
hmmmmmmm

its 1/4 isnt the main focus but its handling

stop harrasing the new tiburons give it time...

my friend ahs an elantra. parts for the tiburon and elantra are interchangable. they don't make sri or cai for these cars. they have a different intake system called an air filter charger it doesn' t provide cold air. it just increases the volume of air into the engine.

hyundai is poor quality. their transmissons go out fast useually @ 60,000 miles if your a second owner on the car. ei used car owner, fomer leased car owners. the 100,000 doesn't apply !

honda = happpy people
hyundai = cheap a$$es

thx for the info , but the 03tibby has the santafe's v6, so is this still true?

he still shouldn't have removed the filter though...

HEY IDIOTS!!! WAKE THE F*CK UP!!
Go get your copy of April 2002 Sport Compact Car. Now, turn to page 75, look at the 'Performance' section of the Tiburon GT's Chart.

Quarter Mile: 15.6 Seconds @ 88.8mph.

The 2003 Tiburons are SLOW, EVEN WITH A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER testing them at a REAL TRACK for a MULTIMILLION DOLLAR MAGAZINE!!! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

What I don't get is, why question this when we have hard documented evidence. Why do we question this? Because people are lazy idiots and when they buy car mags they just look at the ricey pictures and don't take the time to sit down and read.

Phillippe01 and FocusKiller: Hate to prove you wrong, but here's the proof.

A decently driven civic with respectable mods such as Numberonehonda has could EASILY TAKE an 03 Tiburon.

Sorry bout the long post and the 'flame-esque' verbage, but people needed to be set straight on this topic. Hyundai's are junk, and if you think they are so great because they have 'rally designs' you are sorely mistaken. The only thing Hyundai about a Hyundai rally car is the body. It's got a mitsubishi drivetrain and motor parts.

The Santa Fe V6 engines are crap.. Hyundai has already and is in the process of replacing thousands of these under warranty... personally i cant judge hyundai since I've never owned a Hyundai, definitely not past 60,000 miles, but just think logically, they're offering quite a lot for a very cheap price, and obviously they're still making a profit here.. so something had to be sacrificed..

I wasn't talking about the Tiburon. I was questioning numberonehonda's 1/4 mi. time(asking for pics). His friend's Tibby ran 15.3, which, according to your quoting of SCC, is impossible unless his friend drives better than a professional. I don't like hyundais anymore than you do, but don't flame me for asking for pics.

BTW, I've said it before and I'll say it again: MAG RACING IS BS.

FocusKiller: I'm with ya, I wanna see em too... But I believe him because with his mods, it is a believable time. Didn't mean to flame you, and I see where you are coming from.

***PsychopathicLX: Suck my nuts.***

Your picture doesn't even have import mags in it!

DEFINITION OF A MAG RACER:
Idiot sees magazine, buys it, looks at pictures, sees cool LED Tailpipe Tip, buys it, deposits magazine in trash.

A LITERATE PERSON LOOKING FOR INFORMATION:
Buys halfway decent magazines such as SCC for information, laughs at LED Ricers, Reads TECHNICAL ARTICLES and REAL NUMBERS, keeps magazine for future references such as this, and lets you know when you are an idiot.

Suck my nuts.... how nice. Would be a first for you wouldnt it?
First off you quoted a magazine. Damn dood, mags have been saying our cars are like in the low/mid 16 second range, and here Hwoody is hittin a 15.8 . All I'm saying is that that tib has more potential than SCC gives it. Oh and by the way, Focuskiller called you a magracer too.

Lets not forget that out of the thousands of cars coming off the assembly lines it is inevitable that a few will be faster than the others, some will be right where supposed to be, and some will be slower than the rest. Maybe howdy got one of the better ones. Also, mags are great sources of info, maybe not for the testing of products as far as performance, but for overall knowledge and statistics. Most of the mags will publish acceleration times and are usually close enough in there numbers that a good general conclusion of what the vehicle is cable of can be drawn. Although, they have professional drivers and do multiple runs experimenting with different launching methods, shift points, etc. to get the best time. I don't believe the civic is any barn burner but it isn't as slow as a lot of people make it out to be.

Final point, anything that is with a second of the vic's times is game for a race. The driver is the ultimate determining factor when performance is comparable.

And hydai or however you spell pos, are only selling because of their warranties. Some of them may look nice but they are cheap and have one of the worst reps in the business. I am not one to focus on others perceptions of me but I still couldn't tell someone I drove a hun-day and especially that I traded a civic for it!

That's not even a fair race..your civic is modded, and his car is almost stock

the Tiburon is not that bad..i test drove one last month (V6) ..its FASTER then my 02 EX for sure

BUT..IT COST MORE TOO.. what i wanna say is..the v6 Tiburon is meant to compare with the RSX and CELICAS.

JUST MY 0.2

I dont think you can compare the Tib to a Honda....I mean, apples and oranges..you have to take the tibby for what it is. It's HUGE improvement from the previous gen, and it definately succeeded...And how can you go wrong with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty?

Even if Hwoddy ran a 15.8 stock, how are you going to drop6 tenths with exhasut work and intake and pulleys?
hmmmm
what 60ft? r/t? mph?
TIMESLIP?

I really find it interesting that noone has timeslips...sure..vids of the car, a vid of the car stock....but where is the slip?

Just asking.....

That warranty sounds good until you're driving a rental waiting on your car to get fixed. I know, I used to have a Kia Sportage that went through two engines and three transmissions in the four years I had it- warranties are a hook, nothing more(for Korean cars anyway).

I agree, the car may have a warrantee, but what's the worst thing about something going wrong, you have to sit all day in the dealership, or worse, have to get a rental.
