Running on diesel
I let a family member borrow my car and that person accidentally filled up with diesel.

That person then drove the car at highway speeds for a considerable while, even with all that pinging coming from the engine!!! The car doesn't start and warranty doesn't cover stupidity so.....what parts can I expect to replace? And will my baby ever be the same after all that trama?? Thanks.

my friend let his aunt borrow his car and same thing happen. cept she didnt make it out of the gas station. all they did was empty the fuel system and cleaned it. in your case, that might of caused some serious damage running that lean.

This is hopeless
I need
Anyone know if the metro bus is still $1.35 a ride?
I wish I had the funds to try a swap. Only thing I can afford to do is cut a hole on the floor, yell 'yabadabadoo!" and let my feet do the rest.

Don't forget to take Dino along on the back seat
Was the tank emtpy when they filled it up ? Coz if you get maybe half diesel and half gas the damage isn't that bad. Still I guess the whole system needs to be cleaned out.

Im pretty sure the tank was near empty.
The thing that makes it worse is that my car is stranded very far away and I haven't even gotten a chance to see it.
Is it just me or does everyone have the urgent need to see their car if its broken, even if your 100% sure you cant do anything about it?

they have to be completely stupid to fill it with diesel. the diesel nozzle will not fit in the unleaded hole. they designed them like that for a reason. its hard to believe they even made it out of the gas station before the thing shut off. someone posted something similar back in like November. I think they said you would need to purge the system and go from there. you might be all right after that, but who knows until you have someone look at it.

<< sounds like i good time to try that K20A swap everyone been saying they want to do >>
i agree.
my condolences to your car maybe now is the best time to make something good out of something so bad
My aunt did this while driving cross country. The diesal and regular pumps were the same, just different hoses. Plus the nozzle was old and still fit into the unleaded gas filler. Obviously, the big green handle meant nothing to her.
So here is the bad news.
First, you must remove the tank. Completely drain the tank and clean it out. Then you must purge the entire fuel line by forcing air into the lines. Then after changing the fuel filter, you can fill the tank with gas and start the car. You may get lucky and this is all you have to do. It may run okay, or at least long enough for you to drive it around, then take it to Honda.
It is highly likely that the oil in the diesal will clog your injectors, so they will have to be cleaned. The pistons will not be hurt by diesal except if they were pinging for a long time. If this happened, you can buy yourself a new motor. I saw one on Ebay for 1000, so life is bad, but not over.
You will also be shopping for a new cat and a set of O2 sensors.
My aunt's car was smarter than she was. When the car realized life was almost over, it shut itself down. After purging the system and cleaning the injectors, it started up (they also had to reset the ECU). Cost was $800 bucks just for this.
This is a huge reason I don't loan out my cars. My sister blew up my mom's car because she could not understand what the OIL light meant. Maybe you could sell your family member's kidney or something. Cause let's face it, this is ALL THEIR FAULT.

Maybe the receipt was wrong????
Like they said..... drain the system, probably need new O2 sensors, clean injectors. Though it should be OK other than that, the diesel does not even burn as hot as gas.
If it was mostly diesel, you are probably better off. Pure diesel will not burn in a gas car....it will just shut down. The only thing you have to do is clean up the mess.......

we had a moron at a tow yard do this to one of the incomings..... moron
the Diesel nozzle will fit into a gasoline tank, but the gas nozzle will not fit into a diesel tank. This is b/c:
diesel in a gasoline motor = dumb but relativley safe to life
gasoline in a diesel motor = explosion city
