Finished up the mileage checks on my 2001... 32/45 MPG

Did the City recently and got 32 MPG on average. Today I did two tanks of Highway and got 45 MPG both times. Compared to the 28/40 my 1998 got I am pretty happy with the increases

60-70 MPH, no A/C and basically all flat land. If I would have stuck to 55 MPH the whole way I MAYBE could have gotten 47 MPG but it would irk me to no end driving that slow!

this sounds lame, but some old dude at in and out in a 05 ex sedan told me that i could do better than what i was getting (42mpg cruise controlled at 80-85mph with the ac blasting, loaded trunk). he told me "if you slow down 15mph you could do about 50mpg". hehe. i like the civic gas milage. im sure most of us do. Ive gotten 36mpg in stop and go traffic on i405 between lax and san diego.

although recently i did a test going on i5 between la and sf. going north at 70mph with no ac, i only got 39mpg. On my return trip (south bound) i drove around 90mph with ac got 39mpg. both times i was by myself with some laundry in the trunk, and both times i drafted as much as i could with cruise control. Im wondering if there was the a slight incline going north through the central valley? Also im wonder if the head wind and tail wind effected the gas milage that much?
