1992 Subaru Legacy

My Maxima beater is about to pass away so I am looking for a new beater. The Maxima has served me well for the past 15 months as I got out around 14k miles out of it almost care free and the car only cost me 400 dollars.

Anyway, I found a 92 Subaru Legacy AWD wagon, 5 speed, for 300 dollars locally. The seller doesnt need it and says it runs good so I am going to check it out today.

Does anyone have experience with these cars? I'm mostly concerned about the price of parts and how easily accessible everythign is in case somethign goes wrong. Also, how is the quality on these old school subby wagons?

Let me know if you have any personal experience.

They're pretty sturdy vehicles. The flat-4 isn't always the easiest to work on, but it's not as big a PITA as a transverse V6 either.

Dealership network is lacking, though, and parts tend to cost a bit more. Not out of line like Mitsu, though.

For only $300, go for it. You can prolly resell it down the line for at least that much, since it's AWD.
