Toyota declares American's too stupid to work

Toyota Corporation has recently announced that their next plant will not open in America, contrary Arnold Swarchenegger’s strong bid on behalf of California. Instead, Toyota will develop its monster 1,000-acre plant north of the border in Woodstock, Canada. The announcement, made last week, comes as a shocking blow to America’s already fragile economy as the plant is expected to create upward of 25,000 jobs by 2008.
The reason Toyota decided to set up shop in Canada, rather than use the cost-saving pre-built Fresno location? The American workforce is too stupid.

While Toyota spokesperson John Yarinoshi says ‘stupid’ may be too harsh a word, he claims it’s not too far off. “Nissan and Honda have encountered difficulties getting new plants up to full production in recent years in Mississippi and Alabama due to an untrained - and often illiterate – workforce,” explains Yarinoshi. “In Alabama, trainers had to use ‘pictorials’ to teach some illiterate workers how to use high-tech plant equipment. Can you imagine having to train 25% of your employees to read, let alone operate complicated multi-million dollar machinery? Why you think GM and Ford fail?”

American literacy rates are the lowest in the Western Hemisphere at 67%, not much better than Angola’s 63% literacy rate. But reading and writing ability are the least important of their concerns, according to Yarinoshi. “Yes, they are not the most efficient, productive workforce, but that alone I could live with. It’s the unions and the ludicrous demands from such a lazy lot that have really angered top execs in the company. How can someone demand $55,000 a year for putting bolts on wheels – and requiring 2.5 years (of company paid) training for the job at that!”

Toyota is expecting much better results from the Canadians, whom are known for their conservative, business-friendly policies, anti-unionist mentality, and their willingness to work for slave wages. “Canadians don’t care, they’re given a job and they do it. Pay is the least of their concern, as they’re happy to work, not like the socialist minded American workers.”

Toyota’s decision took the country by surprise, and even though it’s angered many Americans, Toyota expects to keep its market share. Ron Harding disagrees. “Here’s another example of corporate greed at it’s finest. They’re exploiting Canadians for their cheap labor, but who’s going to buy their product? Not me. I don’t have a job or a license, how can I afford it? And even if they did open up a plant here, I wouldn’t want to work for the fascist ****** anyway.”

Harding claims that it’s proof that the Bush administration is sleeping with the corporate enemy. “Here we have comparable literacy rates to Africa, and instead of educating our own people the government sends billions over to Live-8 and to Africa, to pay for their cell phones and Wal-Mart satellite stores. We’ve got to wake up, get off our fat asses and make these bastards hear us. We can’t idly sit by and watch Canadians and Africans steal our jobs and consumer products.”

But I guess sitting idly by watching Oprah, well, that’s a different story.

I understand your point, but I think this article is a stretch of the truth. Toyota would never make a statement saying americans are stupid, I mean c'mon, the US is probably the biggest consumer market for their products. I am sure the tax incentives were more favorable in Canada and that is why Toyota decided to open their next plant in woodstock.

I'm lazy, but I'm not stupid. I found a job that makes good money while not really requiring a ton of work.

He could come out and say that we were the biggest bunch of retards that were ever spawned and we would still buy Toyotas. Americans are stupid, lazy, and totally out of touch with reality. We have had it shoved down our throats for so long that we are all equal and that this is the land of opportunity, that we are now all equally retarded and poor. And the reason that we bleed our money to foreign countries is because we have millions of bleeding heart liberals that think if everyone in the world wears a little AIDS ribbon, reads philosophy and tries to be "open minded" that the world will turn into some hippy circle-jerk fantasy. I'm just a little touchy because I just graduated from a (large) college and the level of apathy, laziness, and DIEHARD desire to fit in was AMAZING. When we wake up one morning to realize that the dollar has gone to crap, we are all stupid, and we all have piles of worthless posessions, we will realize some things....

Woodstock is a great place. Not too far from where the Honda plant is in Ontario either. There's a lot of auto manufacturing out that way so that doesn't suprise me at all.

I agree with the statement "Why you think GM and Ford fail?" The Toyota execs speak better English than half this country. That's a sad fact. GM and Ford are dying from the union contracts and the enormous pension plans becasue most Americans are lazy and want everything handed to em.. We want freedom yet we spit on the soldiers that protect it...we want jobs yet we complain when we have to do work.....wtf. Granted, this is a generalization but its all to often TRUE!

bro.. i don't think thats true at all. If people weren't open-minded, there would be way more problems. Everyone would think that their way is the right way and that would causse chaos.
I think its got a lot to George Bush, no offense. Americans are REALLY touchy about George Bush for some reason and i've gotten flamed several times for speaking against him, so i'm gonna choose my words carefully.
I think he's the cause of most of the problems. Just because he has a military mind, he has taken the whole nation down and brainwashed everyone that he's making the right decisions. He should be solving problems within the country instead of worrying about whats going on in other countries. "you're either with us, or against us". What the hell is that? Think about that stupid comment. He has classified countries/races as a whole as "terrorist" countries, and made people turn against each other. Why do you have to be with George Bush? and if you're not why are you assumed to be against him?
I got so much to say about George Bush but i'm gonna stop because he really makes me boil plus i don't wonna get flamed by other people.

This is just an unwell written article, mixed in with the writer's point of view and understanding. I don't remember any foreign car makers made this kind of statement on the news and trustworthy newspapers.

There is no way a japanese company would call americans and canadians are lazy, dumb or anything close to slave labor. They need desperately our market knowing that chinese is currently boycutting their product.

Toyota is keeping its eye on the target, making cars affordable and profitable. I like it. If it means not bringing the jobs here, then we'll just have to accept it. I'd rather have a car built better then be paying for a car that costs just the same, but has less quality because the rest of the money went to paying for someone's insurance/training/whatever.

Thats the real reason they will open the plant there.

Like the only reason they are raising prices is to help GM. Come on give me a F*** break, why is a company that has stated they want to become the biggest auto maker in the world what the rival to out sell them?

Toyota has been opening its mouth too much. Usually I don't hate on a company, but Toyota is starting to annoyed me.

i think its more of the fact that we have the uaw. they protect retards so the companys cant fire them and get employees who can read. they stop the free market from flowing. i mean imagine if you bought a loaf of bread and you hated it but all the bread got together and said hey you need to keep paying for that crap bread.

It's not slave wages when you look at cost of living between California and Ontario....Woodstock specifically. Our company HAD to pay wages through the nose to our people in California until they got smart and just shut the fukcin office down. All those retards did was spend money on **** they didn't need and complain if they had too much work on their plates. Woodstock is not an expensive place to live and therefor the wages aren't going to be required to be so high. As for unions....they suck. They haven't been useful in years and they're losing popularity daily. Michelin (in Canada) has had Unions try on several occasions to get in with their employess. They vote against forming a union every time...the company treats them well.

I was making an argument with the facts given in the article. (by the way I don't think Toyota is stupid to say something like that.)

Now I do agree with you when it comes to unions, I can't make an argument about living cost because that I don't know anything about Canada living cost.

The reason why unions are not as popular now a days is because of the goverment regulations an organizations such as OSHA.

I didn't read anything about being lazy. I read that the owner said that Americans are stupid. We, as at least hs educated individuals and are smart enough to use computers all day, obvious are NOT representative of the nation. Do you realize that most people in this country 1) do not know how to care for themselves with food or exercise and that obesity and smoking rates are killing more people and 2) there are a lot of uneducated people in this country. We just don't see them because we aren't them. You also have to realize that because our country has millions of immigrants, there is a substantial part of the work force that may not speak English.

Do I think there are a lot of Americans out there who aren't fully educated to use multi-million dollar equipment - Yes, and you can't blame Toyota for not wanting to train those people. However our laws forbid discrimination. So they move their plant somewhere else. If you had the choice to let children build your cars or college graduates, which would you choose?

I think its got a lot to George Bush, no offense.

you just described the problem precisely. People DO think that their way is the right way, even when they a) drop out of school b) have the motivation of a rock and c) get their news from a rap station. There are HS dropouts that think that they are overqualified to work at McDonalds. NEWSFLASH if you don't have a HS disploma or GED you aren't overqualified to shovel manure. I'm going to med school in 3 weeks and my first job was all manual labor for $5.15 an hour, and it didn't kill me. You have college professors telling you absolutely that there is no absolute truth, no God, and no gender, and we are surprised when people think that their truth says that they should sit at home all day, kill random people for their money, or engage in any kind of depraved sex act they can imagine. Unless America starts praising hard work again and chastising laziness, we are going to turn into the world's toilet.

Do I think there are a lot of Americans out there who aren't fully educated to use multi-million dollar equipment - Yes, and you can't blame Toyota for not wanting to train those people. However our laws forbid discrimination. So they move their plant somewhere else. If you had the choice to let children build your cars or college graduates, which would you choose?
beautiful answer

Mostly owing to the giant leap ahead having an enormous slave trade gave them. Not to mention the fact that WWII actually had a positive effect on American industry as opposed to a) getting bombed into oblivion (a la London, Tokyo, Berlin or Stalingrad) or b) getting nuked (a la Nagasaki or Hiroshima). Barring that they've been losing market share to cheaper, smarter labourers for the better part of the past 20 yrs. (edit: And not to mention a foreign policy that, for the last 60 years or so, has used military intervention and foreign coup d'etats as a way of projecting a very aggressive brand of capitalism over the globe)

Edit: Also, i think this article is obviously completely bogus, nobody, especially not a rep. for a Japanese company which is built on a conservative, calm image would ever say something so inflamatory. Though, now that I think of it, as I look at the kind of people coming out of the faculty of business at the university here I can't help but think that maybe some of them would say something that dumb

1) did you read the quote i had? your "answer" has little to do with my response. i am arguing that most of america is NOT lazy, which many people have stated in their replies. read up^. thats all i said, nothing more, nothing less. apparently you dont understand that my reply is not towards the article, but towards the people in this thread saying americans are generally lazy.
2) we all see stupid people everyday, dont you drive on any highways, or shop at grocery stores/wal marts?
3) i understand perfectly well what the article is about, and i do not blame toyota at all.... please do NOT treat me like an uneducated person, as that makes me extremely angry. why you chose to respond to my reply, i have no idea.

edited once again.

just to make things simpler, heres another quote.

There is no way a japanese company would call americans and canadians are lazy, dumb or anything close to slave labor. They need desperately our market knowing that chinese is currently boycutting their product.
The problem these days is that no one understands satire anymore. This is obviously a stretch of the truth. Ever heard of Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal"? Same deal. Read between the lines my friend.
