Thoughts on the new Porsche Cayman S?

What We Know: These are the clearest spy shots to date of Porsche's "fourth model," the Cayman S. And it's clear the car is a lot more than just a hardtop Boxster. With distinctive "Coke bottle" lines and a practical Audi TT-style hatchback, the Cayman S is designed to bridge the gap in Porsche's lineup between the Boxster and the 911. Porsche expects the car to push its annual sales above 100,000 vehicles by 2008. It's going to be very quick, too. Power comes from a 295-horsepower, 3.4-liter six-cylinder boxer engine mounted in the middle of its chassis, a more powerful unit than the 3.2-liter in the Boxster S. With the lighter weight of the Cayman compared to that of the 911, it's likely to be lightning fast, with a 0-to-60 time expected to come in around 5.0 seconds. A cheaper, detuned version will follow about a year after the launch of the Cayman S. The Cayman S derives its name from the smallest of crocodiles, the cayman, which is known to be swift and nimble. Porsche Cars North America has set up a Web site (http://www2.us.porsche.com/cayman/pcna.asp) designed to get prospective Cayman buyers' juices flowing. Official launch will be at the Frankfurt auto show in September.

I understood that it was priced above the Boxster as it is more stiff and has the look of a cheaper 911.
Anyway, its a great car and I'd hit it if I could!

is it just me or does PORSCHE don't even have to design their cars? whoever the fvck is designing their cars is getting paid for doing nothing. their lineup basically looks the same as the ones 10 years ago, just minor refresh here and there. i honestly think they look like **** now because the look has been the same ever since and its getting lame.

They popped an SUV in there and they have a sedan in the coming... Those have very little resemblence in shape becuase of the type of vehicles that they are. Porsche is about refinement so they have been refining their vehicles for a long time. The Corvette has only recently reached a stage where Chevy can say we'll tweak this look and do this and that to the car. The 911 has reached that stage several years ago. They upgrade the interior, engine and chasis, but keep the car's overall silhouette and design the same.

No reason to make major changes and im damn glad they haven't. I look at so many Porsche's from the 70's, 80, and 90's and they're still just as amazing looking today as they were back then. Hell I'd pick up a 944 as my next car if they weren't so expensive to maintain
oh and that 911 -looking "sedan" they have coming. Ive seen pictures, and it looks like COMPLETE ***! Porsche really ****ed up with that one. looks like a bloated, very stretched out 911 with 4 doors. I wanted to shoot whoever thought it up.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

porsche needs to focus on the GOOD cars they make, not this low end ****. Drop the boxter completly and let intelligent car enthusiasts only buy their cars.
Drop the Boxter and have only the SUV and 911 to make up the sales? Expensive name plates stand to make a lot of money from people who aspire to their higher models by first selling them lower end models. Just look at 3 series sales.
Thats a sexy car, no two ways about it. And Porsche has had original designs in the past few years, their SUV being the most notable, despite the fact that its a love it or hate it design, barring subjective things like that though, its still a helluva fast car and can still make it around the Nurburing faster than a Nissan GT-R.

From the doors back, it looks like a Boxster with a hard-top/hatchback, and from the windshield forward it looks like a 911... me likey!
lol Now the name on the other hand... I don't really care for it that much.

The SUV design may be original but it shares the same platform as the VW Toureg and has suffered from the same problems the VW has had.
