what happens gas price raise to $3???

Looking at the gas prices these couple of days, they are pretty high, the 87 one is at least 2.2x (here in chicago).. could it go to $3 some day??? what will you do if it does hit $3? will you stop driving the car or not? i don't think i will stop, because i only drive in the weekend... it makes me excited when i sit in my civic...
i don't think i can live w/o driving my car...
i guess we will see more civics or hybrid cars on the road soon

less people will drive, which means less people will buy gas, which means gas stations stop buying gas from their suppliers, which means they hafta lower prices or shut down.

But i think a lot of America is built such that not driving your car will make life a lot more difficult. Public transportation usually isn't that great unless you're in the cities. I'd say people will drive less or make sure that they do all the errands at once, but I don't see it really affecting the demand enough to cut costs THAT much

yes, the demand for gasoline is highly inelastic.

you know what will happen? youll pay whatever they charge. no one that drives their car every day will decide to change their whole routine, even if they could, because of 70+ cents for a gallon of gas. work isnt gonna move closer, and people gotta go to work.

I can only dream that higher gas prices mean less people driving, which equals less traffic.

Your lucky, i'm paying $2.35 for 87 in california. I'm surprised the price isn't already near that price, i thought the gas companies would use that explosion in that oil refinery in texas as an excuse to jack up the price like they usually do.

If the price hits $3 a gallon then gas will become a hot political issue. I believe Bush will talk to his oil buddies to try to lower the price or he'll release the national oil reserves into the market to relieve the high price. Either way, it makes me feel good i have a civic when i fill up.

Yep. People are going to continue to drive, no matter what the cost. People will b!tch about it, but it wont change anything. But what some people should think about is the ratio of gas per gallon really isnt that bad. Compare some of the other liquid items you purchase, and if you had to buy a gallon of that ie: Milk, Orange Juice, that damned bottle water everyone seems to be drinking, even though it isnt any different, or that coffee you go buy at Starbuucks. Compare Gas per gallon and those items, and you will be quite shocked. The president we have likes to line his pockets with oil money, but that is a different discussion.

Actually what could happen is what happened in the early 80's.

Back then, if you adjust for inflation, they were paying the equivalent of $3.00 per gallon.

Truck drivers, who depend on gas more than anyone, started doing rolling road blocks on freeways in protest. They would form rolling road blocks, and stop traffic. Eventually it worked, and gas prices and oil prices were lowered.

all i know is my next car isn't gonna depend on gas. I want something self contained where I don't have to pay to drive it. Hopefully something like that will exist in my future life Screw that hybrid crap. I want ALL electric, or at least some kind of battery powered something.

um...maybe bush should stop the fuggin war, bring our people home, and leave the middle east alone and start extracting our own oil...there are lots of deposits around the US, screw importing them. retarded politicians...i can't believe they still haven't taken action for this...they know we won't do anything, and even if the gas prices does exceed $3 and we do boycott or something, that eventually, we'll give in and buy gas again, so its fuggin pointless, those politicians are heartless man, it troubles me that ppl like that exist and run the country I live in.

pnoyster2k1cvic is on a distinguished road
I put 50% 100octane @ $4.20 per gl. and 50% 93octane @ $2.89 per gl. so that's about $3.60 per gl. =$40+ full tank for 2 weeks short distance driving less than 20miles a day... full tank runs me about 280+miles but I love driving my car... and I don't care if the gas is 10per gallon I will still be driving my car... it just means that I have to work extra hours

if gas was $3 for 87, i would drive less and not so spirited as i always do. our civics are gas consuming cars and thats the best part i like about my car. i ill still continue to drive because i rely on a car to go almost everywhere.
