is it legal to tint over the rear breaklight?

I mean, tint the entire rear window so that it covers up the middle upper break light? In PA.

The cars that had a little gap in the tint look bad imo.

i don't think thats illegal. if you see a gap where there isn't any tint around the brake light they either got a cheap tint job or got it done by crappy shop that doesn't know how to tint correctly.

I don't think it is. My whole rear window is tinted, including the part where the brake light is.

Well it's also required that you have a third brakelight. If it's not visible during the day, you'll get a ticket.

im in cali and my toyotas 3rd brake light is tinted over. the 3rd brake light still lits, but not as visable. btw im in cali if it matters.

i would check with your local department to call and make sure or the shop might even know. cause i believe shops are required to let you know whats the legal tint and whatnot. if they just go ahead and do it, tell the officer the shop u got it done at never bothered to tell u. it may be an shady excuse, but thats how **** goes down to coverup for urself.

ibtm to legal questions and law

its fine to tint over it, im in pa and mines tinted. looks much cleaner. those ones with no tint over it look so stupid, looks like they didn't tint it right. just tint it. ur fine. cops wont care, but dont tint the side windows or ur in for trouble, they like to single u out. i kno.

I didn't see the point in paying 10 extra bucks to have the guy cut out the tint. I doubt it. Why don't you ask the guy who did it????????

It should be coo to tint you backs, out here in CA you can get the back windows tinted as dark as you want, and the 3rd brake light is an aux brake light which means its not required, but I mean the light shines through the tint so its still the same thing. just check with the DOT website out there it shouldnt matter though. hope this helps.
