and what would u do with the remaining money?
me.....i would either buy a 240sx or a 92-95 civic hatch
with the 240 id put the sr20det in it and boost it.....with what i had left id get some suspension and good tires...
and with the hatch id probably do either a b18 or b16...build and boost it

Ummm... with $5000 I can't get much here in Puerto Rico.
Since 100% of our parts are imported, they all have taxes... plus the stores ask too much for stuff.
I don't think I understood correctly... do I have to buy the car and build it or just build it with the $5000?

id keep the civic and put the $5000 away in my money market account so when I graduate college and my parents buy me a new car i can get a much nicer car and give them the $5000 for it.

hmmm, not a fan of that year. but that would be a fast car with that swap. the only thing that sucks is that 5k wouldnt even cover the engine swap.

id totally get the nA miata (like a 92 or 93)...you can find them for like under 500 sometimes. gut it and sell whatever i dont need. put a stroker kit and an ubercharger from flyin miata in there. suspension work and light rims w/ sticky tires. hard dog roll bars. if i have any $$ left over maybe upgrade the brakes. say hello to your new monster. lol

good choice.
1969 CAMARO
stoked and bored 350 with a t56 and aaaaaaa lot of suspension work
but 5,000 thats the bad part... the engine would cost that much. but for a project camaro of that year it's about 5,000... such a pretty car lol

In the order of things suggested I'd take the 240SX, Miata and lastly the hatch. Theres been too many B-series hatch swaps and consequently the prices of B series engines are so inflated right now that its sick, sure theres enormous aftermarket support but its so played out and so damn expensive why bother.
With an SR20 swap you've got lots of FI goodies to play with and push come shove theres a lot of power to suck out of one of those things, not to mention countless JDM goodies.
The Miata would be fun, but I think its more of an autocross thing, hell, I suppose you could buy a cheap one, fix it up, prep. it and maybe run Spec Miata?
