How hard do you push your A/T normally? (engine speed wise)
How hard do you push your A/T normally? (engine speed wise)
after a month with my civic i still dont feel what normal acceleration is. Off a red light corollas/and other civics still accelerate faster. Whats optimum engine speed that woudlnt damage car/tranny but still give max acceleration? Obviously flooring your car everytime off a red light isnt good. Thx

I try not to let mine go past 4k rpms, but sometimes it's necessary. If you really want to help the tranny last longer, get an oil cooler for $50. Almost 90% of tranny problems are heat related.
I dunno, I drive pretty timidly around town, it usually shifts around 2500-3000. I've had it stay in 1st to 70 mph once, I don't know how I did it (it was from a tollbooth on the Florida Turnpike.) The fastest I've ever gone in my Civic is 100, and it really didn't seem to want to get that high...To keep it happy, change your A/T fluid. I do mine every 30k which some say is overkill, but hey. I run Mobil 1 A/T Fluid and Mobil 1 0W30 Mot
or Oil...
or Oil... on regular city driving, i usually get it up to 3.5-4k rpm from a stop. i dont care if the car aside me goes faster. how do you know that corolla is not pushing it either? lol. if no one is around, then i drive clamly depending on conditions.
on the highway, i keep it safe a 70-80mph depending if im in a hurry or not. but usually im at 70mph-75mph ish. but its hard merging on the freeway

If i have merge into the freeway to escape a truck or beat someone in a 2 lane merge, I push it to around 4k. If accelerating from a stoplight and someone is riding on my tail, i go around 3k. If no one is close behind me and i am in gas-saving mode, around 2.3k. I have no vtec but i dont know why it feels like vtec kicking in at 2.5k as acceleration is significantly more past that mark. Maybe its just my car.
Pretty hard...
Normal shift on mine is 3.5-4 when driving somewhat aggressively (which is most of the time for me).
When passing on the freeway or driving in full-out "get out of my way you idiot" mode, it's hit 7k before shifting.
I've done 105 in it without any problem, and it wasn't close to topping out on the tach (Door County, WI is great for backroads...2-3 cops in the entire county, NO traffic, ruler-straight).

i used to let it shift around 3k. it feels like crap below 3k, car doesn't do anything resembling pulling below 3k on an auto. but whatever, auto civic=grocery getter or show car.
my car never shifts before 4500-5000 RPMS.... im not ragging on it by any means either, thats just driving regularly, 19s slow you down and you gotta give it a little more gas. if i let it shift at like 3k i would never go anywhere and i would get run over... Atlanta traffic is crazy.
