Honda SUT - A Perfect Blend
Honda SUT Concept Debuts at 2004 North American International Auto Show. Next-generation truck concept sets direction for new Honda Sport-Utility Truck to be launched in 2005
DETROIT, Jan. 4 - Car.com staff writer Michelle Czarka
Honda Corporation presented its highly anticipated "Sport-Utility Truck" to the audience at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-new SUT is based on Honda's Global Light Truck Platform and is slated for introduction in the 2005 calendar year.
Billed as the vehicle for “cool dads”, the Honda SUT Concept is a next-generation truck concept that perfectly blends a light-duty truck with SUV practicality seamlessly creating a vehicle harmonious to the family man who still enjoys an active lifestyle. With spacious seating for up to 5 adults, the SUT displays the traditional Honda automotive aspects such as distinguished styling, superior ergonomics, innovative design and world-class quality.
“The pickup market is evolving to meet the changing tastes of a new generation of truck buyers," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Honda SUT Concept takes this evolution to the next level with higher levels of refinement and sophistication in a sporty and socially responsible package with Honda durability, quality and reliability."
Along with its spacious interior, the SUT Concept features a five-foot long cargo bed with reduced intrusion of the real wheel arches to maximize the overall hauling potential.
The styling theme for the SUT Concept was "billet machined aluminum" representing the idea of a vehicle machined from a single block of metal. From its wide stance and strong grill appearance, the SUT Concept's styling delivers a sense of rugged strength combined with a modern, industrial appearance desired by today’s market.
"People will recognize this as a new kind of truck," said Marek. "We wanted to express the unique character of Honda in a vehicle that we think will take all trucks into the next generation, stylistically."
The design of the SUT leaves very little to be desired and even surpasses the expectations of most trucks buyers. The interior features a four-paneled skylight, passenger seats that resemble roll bars, rear storage bins made out of climbing rope, and front door liners with integrated Mag-Lite(R) flashlights. For camping trips, bonfires or tailgating, the cargo bed offers integrated lights and speakers.
Honda not only designed and built an extremely functional vehicle but also managed to make it environmentally responsible. The SUT Concept vehicle is powered by a high performance, high torque all-aluminum VTEC V-6 engine coupled with an advanced electronically controlled four-wheel- drive system for outstanding all-weather handling performance and medium-duty towing and off-road capabilities, along with ultra-low emissions and class- leading fuel efficiency.
In keeping with Honda's "Safety for Everyone" concept, the Honda SUT Concept integrates safety features such as side curtain airbags with rollover sensors, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), front-side airbags with the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), four-wheel anti-lock brakes and pedestrian safety features. With its unibody frame design, the SUT Concept provides a high level of occupant protection along with reduced aggressiveness toward other vehicles in a frontal collision.

Yea, I agree... It needs a V8 to compete... even if the 6 they put in it does produce enough power. But ofcorse, Honda is too stubborn to make a production V8 so.. what can ya do... gota give credit tho, they sure can make nice n/a 4s and 6s

I Like it alot, the interior is awesome. The only thing i am not head over heels about is the rear of the truck. I wonder if the "tuner" scene will jump on this truck.
