“To pull you over for doing one thing, they have to do 12 different things,” engineer Brett Vinciguerra said. “They have to turn the lights on, turn the siren on, figure out where they are, pick up the radio, turn on the video camera, radio in that they are pulling someone over.”

Wow! They have to flip 2 switches, press a button, and talk! How do they do it!?

At my job I sometimes have to talk and press up to 30 buttons a minute! It's called typing!

Haha, 30 buttons a minute? If the average word is 5 letters that means you type at 6 WPM.

you know when a police car would pass you by knowing you were speeding.....cause they were too lazy to turn on their lights, camera, siren....NOT ANYMORE since they are high tech and alll...

Talking on the radio encompasses finding street signs to give exact locations, and you need to look out the windows away from the road to do this. The switches are not located in the dash...cruisers aren't exactly user-friendly, and the switches are located in the center console. Have you ever BEEN in a police car? There is more going on than you think. Therefore, there is a lot of groping that goes on to find the right light sequence (there are different sequences for stationary, code runs, etc., on top of the buttons that control your right/left alley lights, takedown spots, map light, and the shotgun lock, among other things). And this is while the mic is taking the use of one hand, not to mention maybe having to flip to the right trunk radio frequency to dispatch.

Oh yeah...and all this while maybe driving 20 over the limit, weaving through traffic, trying to catch up to a speeder or reckless driver.

Think of it this way...The less streesed a cop is when they pull you over..the less likely he is to give you a ticket for a smaller offense. If your doing 90 in a school zone though...your gonna get a ticket no matter what.

Try talking to your homie on the cell phone, adjusting the time correction on your complicated *** Alpine head unit, and eating french fries, all while doing double the speed limit.

My point is, anything can be done with ease. All it takes is practice. The more accustomed the officer becomes with his/her vehicle, the faster they are able to operate such accesories without having to think about it or look at it. This is just another waste of money and a way to make cops lazier. If they want a easier way to turn on their lights, buy the Clapper.

have you ever seen the inside of a cruiser before? if there is something there to help the officer while he is in the process of potentialy making a life or death decision, then that is a huge help, its not there to make officers lazy, they are out there to protect you.

If I had to make a judgment, I'd say that you just have a predisposition to not liking cops. You said this is a way to make them lazier, hence you already think they are lazy. If this system were adapted for firefighters, would you call them lazy too? Firefighters don't need any help, because they are well-practiced at weaving through traffic to get to fires. It would be absurd to apply that logic there, and with police it is a very similar situation. You only think of the negative...that they'll be able to tail you easier when you're speeding. They may be able to get used to it, just like people could get used to not having ABS, but having it is better than not, and it doesn't make you lazier, it makes you safer. You can't argue against that. No matter how "used to" talking on the cell, fiddling with the headunit, eating fries, and doing twice the limit you are, it is still safer NOT to do it.

PS. How did you ever come up with the idea of doing all that stuff and considering it a logical analogy to driving a police car, trying to do a job? If they came out with a system that let you do that stuff, then THAT would be a waste of money.

PPS. "Homie"? ROFL lease:

EDIT: Punctuation

They could also have a special verbal command for some DONUTS. Then the car would automatically drive to the nearest donut shop and alert the other cruisers to his loaction.

Trust me? My local Dunkin Dounuts is patrolled by at least one cop at all times! I'm not making a joke either. Maybe the fine officers up there in Maine are different than those here in NJ.
