prelude vs. civic
prelude vs. civic
i am new too this site and already i need advice. i own a 2001 civic with 39000 miles on it and a few door dings from fukks at the store who can't open thier doors without hittin my car but nothin really noticeable . i am thinkin about tradeing in for a 99 prelude with 53000 miles and could use some paint and a good buffing but, the touch up guy that works at my dealership would hook me up with that. he does a really good job too. they say they will give me 12500 ( i only paid 12000 and got it at 26000 miles on it hahaha) and the prelude costs 14900. would you do it ? why?

ooh... a 99 'lude with 53k miles on it.. not bad.. tough choice... that lude would prolly smoke a 7thgen.. haha... i'd prolly take the 'lude.. but, i dont have that option, so i'm gonna try and suck up as much power as i can from this d17..
what block does a 99 lude have? is that the h22?

I have a friend with a 99 lude, it's real clean. He got it with 30k miles on it and it had a few power upgrades on it, boltons mostly. That thing smokes me, a few GSR's I know of, and a couple of other cars out there that he's run against. It's pretty damn good choice. If you are willin to pay the difference in costs though, it wouldn't be too bad. I'd have the guy reduce the price since you do need to repaint it though- but that's all up to him. Try to haggle. Good luck with whatever you decide.

yea.. try haggling with the dude.. also, try and get a good deal with the paint a buffing.. my step-mom and dad went to buy my step mom a used benz (97 e420), but it had some dings and paint chips and stuff.. my dad got them to fix up the paint and dings (it has a pseudo-chameleon paint scheme, dark turquoise to a dark-pinkish/purple/fushia) for free, and still keep the cost of it the same
i did haggle , they were gonna give 10,000 for my car and the lude was 15,995 but see the sales person messed up and call my mom that has been in the car business for as long as i can remember so she knows some stuff , plus they are supposed to call me back tomorrow to see if they are willing to do an even trade cuz my car is in high demand, i think they kinda messed up by tellin me they have alot of people lookin for my car.
Those cars are really pimp, but just for kicks look at the curb weight on the car at Kbb.com. It will probobly suprise you. Remember it is supposed to be a sports car. The H22 motor is REALLY strong but it takes a lot to pull the prelude. But still I love those cars!!!!!!!!!
yea its really heavy...for the power, it only keeps up with GSR's. A type R integra, or RSX-S will smoke it pretty hard. If i were you, i would find a nice Integra GSR and fix it up. You will be faster with the GSR, if thats what you are into.
Otherwise, the Prelude is a good car...the Type SH is amazing in handling. With the right suspension setup, it can kill most cars around the turns. I just wish the lude wasnt so heavy.

my friend as well has a 99 prelude black, 5 speed, non sh. he payed 16k CAD. He's a pretty good driver he beat a gsr and he loses to a type R by about 3-4 cars on 1/4 mile. Very good cars and great potential to them I would do it. As long as insurance doesn't really go up too much I would go for it.
i say do it. the diff. isnt too much at all, and cant you make monthly payments on that anyways? that difference spread out over a year or two is not bad at all, unless you still owe money on the Vic
I would, I had a 2000 lude and it was sweet. Great car...I smoke several cars with it but the only thing wrong with the car is that it didn't have good low end torque. Talking about it makes me sad because I totaled it last year and now I drive a civic. No complaints about the civic either because now I save more on gas
I sure wish my car was newer

I would trade.
But if you're not an import-only type guy... my buddy just bought a 1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra for $17,000. He let me drive it... oh man. I'd love to have 320rwhp and equal torque for that much money. That's less than my Civic was!

Yes, the new Cobras are SC'd V8s with 390hp and equal tq. The 01 and previous models were NA V8s putting down 320hp.
Mikeds122 - is it your friend's dad's only car? I live quite a bit south of you, and I'm dreading what will happen when snow comes... coz it's my friend's only car.
